Mary "Jane" Loeffler

Mary "Jane" Loeffler, 78, of La Porte, IN, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 27, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family - the very people she cherished most in this world.

Born on August 3, 1946, in La Porte, IN, to Clarence and Leathe (Haag) Hilgendorf, Jane lived a life full of joy, laughter, and kindness.  She had a special way of making everyone feel loved and welcome, whether you were family, a friend, or simply someone lucky enough to cross her path.

On May 28, 1966, in La Porte, she married the love of her life, Ronald "Wayne" Loeffler, who survives her.  Together, they built a beautiful family and a lifetime of memories.  Jane's heart was fullest when surrounded by her three sons, Jeff (Angie) Loeffler of Buchanan, MI, Ryan (Becky) Loeffler of La Porte, and Corey (Paula) Loeffler of La Porte.  She was the proud Nana to seven grandchildren, Danika (Matt Piotrowski), Paige, Aubree, Nathan, Graysen, Charlie, and Tyler (Triza Bailey).  Her grandchildren always brought a sparkle to her eyes and endless pride to her heart.

Jane's loving spirit also lives on through her two sisters, Sally (Dennis) Beige of La Porte and Marti (James) Barber of Warsaw; her brother, C.J. (Dana) Hilgendorf of Sarasota; and her many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was welcomed into Heaven by her beloved parents and brother, Kenneth Hilgendorf.

Jane worked for over 20 years as an office coordinator for INDOT, but her real work was done outside the office - creating a home filled with laughter, good food, and endless support.  She was a Legacy member of Tri Kappa.  Jane loved tending to her garden, cheering and placing bets on her favorite teams - the Chicago Cubs, the Bears, and Notre Dame football - and spending relaxing, sunny afternoons by the pool.  Her greatest joy, though, was simply being with her family, sharing laughter, hugs, and moments of unconditional love.

She was born in La Porte on September 10, 1944, to Helen (Alsop) and Walter John Shrader. She was 80 years old.

She met the love of her life, Floyd Wayne Schrock, shopping at Five Star, where he was a manager. The story goes that Darla’s 5-year-old daughter Lisa was riding in the basket when they ran into Floyd, and she introduced her Mommy to him. Floyd and Darla were married on September 22, 1973. Floyd preceded Darla in death on September 18, 2021.

Darla leaves behind her children, Lisa Conley of La Porte and Patrick Conley (Carrie) also of La Porte. Stepchildren: Rodney Schrock (Cynthia) of and Pamela Schrock of Florida. Randy Schrock (deceased). She had grandchildren: Dakota Conley (Ashley), Shiane Leady (Chance), and Joshua Conley (Patrick). Jerad and Aaron (Rodney). Megan (Pam). She loved all those little athletes. Darla loved children and animals. Dogs were her favorite. Her loving dogs, Bosley, Levi (Puppers), and Maddie, preceded her in death. Patty Lynn Ross

Patty Lynn Ross, 76, of Dowagiac, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025.

Patty was born on March 7, 1948, in La Porte, Indiana, to Raymond and Ruth (Nickerson) Stombaugh.

Surviving are her 2 children, Ryan Manzuk of Dowagiac, Michigan; Todd Griffin of Tampa, Florida; and 1 brother, Douglas (Janine) Stombaugh, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Patty was a retired chef, who last worked at the Four Winds Casino restaurant.  Before that, she was the head chef at the Beachwood Restaurant in New Buffalo and Rojoes in Rolling Prairie.

She lived in California from the second grade to graduation in 1966 from Pacific High School, which had the highest enrollment in the state at the time.  As a young girl, she was fortunate enough to sit onstage during Rolling Stone's second performance in the U.S. due to babysitting two disc jockeys' kids whose radio station was sponsoring the event.

Patty joined her brother and friends in a baseball game one sunny day.  Because she was a girl she had been chosen last to be on a team.  When she came to the plate the other team chattered extra loudly trying to rattle her.  With the first pitch, she smashed the ball far over the heads of the outfielders for a home run.  From then on she was never chosen last and earned the respect of all the other players including her brother who was especially proud of her.

When her sons were young, Patty was always very active with her sons' sports.  She also enjoyed following most pro and college teams.

Patty will be fondly remembered for loving life and for loving, living, adopting, and caring for both people and animals throughout her life.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A private family service will take place at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family c/o Ryan Manzuk, 2900 Monroe Street, La Porte, IN 46350, or to the donor's choice.
