As he grew in age, he also grew in comedy and generosity, retiring from the fire department he continued to serve as a member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association (IVFA), he then rallied for men and others to join the auxiliary, a 'sister' branch in need of support (IVFAA).

He held the position of Vice President within the Michiana Shores' Women's Auxiliary and after 55 years with the IVFA, serving as District 3 Chairman for 15 years, and was made an honorary member of the Bass Lake Volunteer Fire Department. Other positions he was known to serve the community included: holding a position on the town council, Assistant Precinct Chairman, and judge for over 18 years for the local areas elections.

Those who knew him, knew him as "Just Bob" at karaoke night, the father/grandfather who loved NASCAR and the Indy 500; the man that would give you the shirt off his back, but more importantly a man who enjoyed traveling the country and world, and making the people around him smile. He had an infectious laughter, knee-slap sense of humor, and a smile that could light up a room. He will be deeply missed by his family and community.

If one were pressed to sum up our beautiful, kind, and caring mother in just one word, that word would be “family.”  To Mom, family was everything. She never wavered in her commitment to any of her children or grandchildren.  She could be counted on for anything if it involved her family. She was a tireless listener, encourager, and loving and supportive mother and grandmother. Her wisdom was empowering and her love for her family knew no bounds. Her children were proud to call her their mom. Every one of her 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren delighted in being with and loved their “Sito.” She has left us with a huge void in our lives and she will be greatly missed.

Mom always had a smile on her face and those lucky enough to know her could see the genuineness of that smile. She cherished her friends who knew she was a beautiful soul, inside and out. She was a loyal and generous friend, and she will be missed by many.

Bradley Scott Bennington

Bradley Scott Bennington, known affectionately as Brad to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on May 20th, 2024, in La Porte, Indiana.

Born on February 10th, 1993, in Valparaiso, Indiana, Brad was the cherished son of Brandi Sharp and Ryan Bennington. His early years were spent in the warmth of a loving family, and he carried that love throughout his life, spreading joy and laughter wherever he went.

Brad was a Steel Machine Operator with American RENOLIT Corporation in La Porte, Indiana.

Brad's greatest joy and most profound pride were found in his family. A devoted husband to his wife, Shelby, and a proud father to his son, Jaxson, Brad's love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. His relationship with his son was a beautiful testament to the kind of father he was—involved, caring, and always present. He also shared a special bond with his nephews, Jayden and Brody, who looked up to him as a second father, a role he embraced with open arms and a full heart.

Brad's one-of-a-kind personality left an indelible mark on everyone he met. His sense of humor was infectious, and his ability to make others laugh was one of his most endearing qualities. He was the life of the party, always ready with a joke or a funny story to lighten the mood. Brad's friendly and kind nature made him a beloved figure in his community and among his extensive circle of friends and family.

An avid football and UFC fan, Brad enjoyed the thrill of the game and the excitement of competition. He found solace and joy in fishing, often spending peaceful hours by the water with a rod in hand. Video games provided another avenue for Brad to unwind and engage with friends, while his adventurous palate meant he was always eager to try new foods. Family cookouts were a favorite occasion for Brad, where he could combine his love for good food, great company, and hearty laughter.

Brad is lovingly remembered by his wife, Shelby, and their son, Jaxson. His legacy continues through his mother, Brandi Sharp, and stepfather, Chip Sharp; his father, Ryan Bennington, and stepmother, Julie Bennington; and mother-in-law, Lisa Wilke. His brothers-in-law, Kody Wilke (Brooke) and Christopher Wilke; his sisters, Ellie Lemmon and Arielle Felty (Jake); and grandparents, Jeanne Moser, Dave Moser, and William Bennington, will hold dear the memories of Brad's kindness and humor. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, and cousins also survive him, each carrying a piece of Brad's friendly spirit with them.

Brad was preceded in death by his grandmother, Brenda Bennington; great-grandmother, Evelyn Denison; father-in-law, Kevin Wilke; brother-in-law, Jason Jackman; and Aunt Rosie Huddleston. Each of these individuals held a special place in Brad's heart, and their influence on his life was profound.

Brad's departure from this world leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His laughter, his kindness, and his unwavering dedication to his family will be remembered and cherished forever. Brad's life, though too short, was a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the joy of simple pleasures.

Jennifer Lee Rucker

Our Jenny was a devoted and loyal Mom, Daughter, Sister, Niece, Cousin, and Friend. Jesus called her home on May 16th to finally be pain-free and whole once again. It was a long and gallant battle for many years after being injured serving as an Emergency Medical Technician. She was doing what she did best- serving others and putting them first.

Jenny was born on August 26th, 1984. She is survived by her four amazing daughters, Lily (17), Bailee (15), and her twins, Cali and Cami (12). Her Mama and Dad, Paula and Garry Nichols. Brother- Joshua Dunkleberger (Carly Togher), Nieces - Aubrey, Addy and Nephew-Reid. Step Brother- Phillip (Lindsey) Nichols-Nieces Mary Jayne (Levi), Lilliana, Nephews-Colin and Dom. Step Brother- Garry Nichols, Biological father- Douglas Dunkleberger

Jenny was also blessed to have a very large extended family who provided endless love and support. She enjoyed being with her Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephew so much and always looked forward to our big family gatherings. She recently expressed how much she loved getting together with all of them.
Family and Friends who stood by her side know who you are, she appreciated you so very much. Thank you for wrapping your love and kindness around her.

Jenny’s four daughters have been the light of her world since they were born. They are the reason that she fought so hard to stay on this earth. She adored her children and wanted so badly to see them grow up and fulfill all of the dreams that they so often shared with her. She always told them that they could do anything and she would try to show them how to overcome the adversities that this world sometimes throws at us. They are sweet, kind, wonderful, respectful individuals because of her. She loved them more than anything. She taught them life values, independence, and to always care about others. She always wanted them to know that riches on earth are not what matters. She would tell them to always treat everyone the same, be non-judgmental, and remember to always to treat others the way you want to be treated. She told them every day,” I love you to the moon and back my babies!” She did and will love them now from heaven above.

Jenny had a special relationship with her brother, Josh, he was her hero. They would defend each other to the end, make each other laugh, and everyone else in the room. Their shenanigans would keep Dad and Mama on their toes, but touch their hearts as they knew that the two of them had a relationship rare for siblings. She loved her brother so very much. She spoke with pride at the relationship they had.

Jenny and her Mama were together on a daily basis. There were phone calls throughout the day to discuss whatever was going on and what was happening. She was her Mama’s girl and the memories of her life will have to fill the deep sorrow that is left. Jenny brought so much love and joy to her Mama. She will be missed beyond any expression of words.

Jenny was an avid reader- reading over 3000 books in the last 4 years. She created beautiful cross-stitch projects. She taught her four girls the love of crafting, and creating something amazing with your hands. Her projects had meaning and a story behind each one. She completed many projects for people who just happened to pass her way. She was selfless and each of the time-consuming pieces were always for someone else. She used her talents to share her love and concern for others. Jenny was also an avid gourmet cook. Her creations amazed us. There was never a recipe or a dish too hard for her to create. They always looked and tasted like a professional had created them. She truly enjoyed creativity. She had a beautiful voice and sang frequently. The talents she had were used to bring happiness to someone else and to share joy in a unique way.

She was never too ill to attempt to do something for a neighbor, friend, or family member. She was loyal beyond measure. She will be remembered for her loyalty, integrity, and deep love for the ones closest to her.

There are no words that can adequately express the pain in our hearts as we say our goodbyes to our Jenny. There is a permanent piece of the puzzle missing until we all meet again in heaven. She will forever and always be in our hearts.

Jesus gained an angel on May 16th, 2024. We lost our Mom, Daughter, Sister, Niece, Cousin, Friend. We have comfort knowing that she will no longer have the earthly struggles, but our hearts are heavy as we say so long for now. We love you so and miss you so very much!

We know that Jenny would want us to thank the following people:
Pastor Jeff Zigler- you provided peace and love when she needed it most

Family Members and Friends- Constant Prayer and Support
Multiple Health Professionals over the years too many to list.

Douglas Oliver Anderson

Douglas Oliver Anderson, born October 28th, 1940, in La Porte, peacefully passed away Wednesday, May 1st, 2024.  Preceding him in death is the love of his life, his high school sweetheart and wife of 55 years, Judith K. (Lowery); his beloved sister, LouAnn Steele; and his cherished parents, Mr. Oliver and Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson.

Well known for his determination and entrepreneurship, many have met him throughout his various successful endeavors; from delivering fuel oil as Anderson Oil, La Porte, to hauling grains to the elevators, reaped from the family farm before he got into short-term hauling under Anderson Trucking.  So that Mom and Dad could enjoy time together in their working-retirement years, they became owners and sole operators of Liberty Package Store, North Liberty.

Throughout his adulthood, Dad was involved in several community clubs, Lions Club of Fish Lake, Stillwell Leadership, and Moose Lodge, where he was a member and leader.  While these clubs were where Dad contributed, the Hoosier Old Wheels Club was where Dad and Mom relaxed; from classic car shows to rallies and scavenger hunts to simply sitting around a campfire talking cars, this was their fun club.

Those who knew Dad can surely recall at least one story.  Perhaps he told you about his favorite childhood memories of being out on his aunt and uncle's farm and riding his companion, Scout, out and about and winning barrel races.  Surely you've heard at least one car story--whether it's how he found one or how he raced one, or that his favorite thing to do was drive his classic cars.  He had a knack for working in a car story into any conversation and how he got his prized possession, the '67 Corvette Coupe.

Knowing Doug, you've heard him laugh about the great times he had over the years with his adored wife, Judy. He would absolutely light up when given the chance to talk about Judy's drag racing.  You could feel his love for her when he teased her about "vroom-vrooming" through the gears when she thought she was alone.

Surviving Doug are his children, Scott and Tanya, and grandson, Cody.

The tenacity and stubbornness which drove his entrepreneurship also applied to family. Agree or disagree, like it or not, at least you'd know his position, and more likely than not, you learned a lesson along the way.  It wasn't always easy being raised under the expectation of perfection, but I am grateful for the most valuable lesson a parent can teach: how to be a decent human being and still fight for what you believe in.  So, no matter how you knew Douglas Anderson, may your memory of him be exactly as he was in life--no B.S.

An opening viewing will be held from 3 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 9th, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Friday, May 10th, 2024, at Moose Lodge #492, La Porte.

Leslie Ellen Hahney-Swayze

Leslie Ellen Hahney-Swayze, 42 of La Porte, Indiana passed away Monday, April 29, 2024. She was born on February 5th, 1982.

Our sweet Leslie sadly passed away unexpectedly in her sleep early Monday morning. Leslie brightened our worlds more than she could ever imagine.

Leslie had a passion for drinking as much pop as she could get her hands on, specifically “dark pop.” We spent several thousand hours watching Dirty Dancing, To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Curly Sue, and Home Alone. She loved listening to music at full blast in the car, sitting in the sun on the back porch, and going to McDonald’s. Did I mention she loved pop? She loved Barbies, a sock in a Tupperware, Bon Jovi, Celine Dion, John Rink, Dusty Rose, Van Halen, and Taylor Swift.

Leslie had a beautiful life. She was attached to her mother’s hip. She followed her everywhere like a baby duck and goose.

She taught all of us patience and a different kind of love and understanding most people do not get the opportunity to experience. She taught us humor and that it’s okay to laugh. Leslie was one of the girls.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life Patrick Swayze and grandparents Albert Wright, Josephine Hahney, and William Hahney. Dogs, Kikko, Gizmo, and Barney.

She is survived by her love, Howie D from the Backstreet Boys; her loving mother, Beth Hahney; father Michael Hahney; grandma, Lu Lu; aunt Kimberly (Jeff) Meister; uncle Jim (Joann) Wright, uncle Bill; sisters, Patti (Keith) Pierson, Brittney (Jimmy) Drakoulis, Casey (Andy) Milam, and a brother, Michael (Gen) Hahney Jr.

She was adored by her nieces and nephews Bella, Coltt, Mickey, Remi, Maverick, and Josie.

Our worlds are a lot quieter without her and her potty mouth. She will be missed immensely. Please keep our family, especially our mother, in your thoughts. “Laughed as she came to my cradle, Know this child will be able, Laughed as she came to my mother, Know this child will not suffer, Laughed as my body, she lifted, Know this child will be gifted, With love, with patience, and with faith, She'll make her way.”

Arrangements have been entrusted to Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel in La Porte.
