Born on October 24, 1958, to Gerald "Jerry" Lawson and Ruth "Cheech" (Smith) Lawson, Kirt's life was a testament to the values of kindness, hard work, and selflessness that he embodied every day.

Kirt's journey began in La Porte, where he was a beacon of loyalty and dedication from his youth. After graduating from La Porte High School in 1977, he pursued higher education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, setting the stage for what would become a lifelong commitment to empowering others through learning. Kirt returned to his alma mater as the Industrial arts technology teacher and the Building Trades teacher for LaPorte High School, where he would shape the lives of students for over three decades.

On August 20, 1982, Kirt married the love of his life, Terri Jones, who survives him. Together, they raised two daughters, Katie (Chad) Mrozinski of New Carlisle, Indiana, and Karlee (Kristian) Dodson of Valparaiso, Indiana. His joy multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren, Lyla and Clark Mrozinski, and Klayton and Klara Dodson. In addition to his family, Kirt's professional life was marked by notable achievements and contributions. He was the former owner of Lawson and Sons Insulation, a successful business that he operated for over 30 years. His commitment to service extended beyond the classroom, as he sponsored the Fishing Club, mentored students through the School Buddies program, and coached wrestling at both the middle and high school levels.

His community involvement was vast, including partnerships with local organizations to support causes like childhood cancer research, where he helped raise over $20,000 through Alex's Lemonade Stand. Kirt was a recipient of multiple awards, including the Volunteer of the Year for La Porte County Parks in 2019, the Butterfly Award from Worthy Women's Recovery Home, and Learn Today to Excel Tomorrow award for LaPorte Slicers in 2023. A man of faith, he was a member of Holy Family Parish, Sacred Heart Church in La Porte.

In 2023, Kirt was honored as the Secondary Teacher of the Year, a fitting accolade for a man who dedicated his life to the betterment of others. Paulie worked for many years in the Utility Department of the La Porte School Corporation, retiring in 2017 with the respect and admiration of his coworkers. After retirement, he found a second family and a sense of purpose working part-time at JJ's Pizza Shack, where he truly loved and built lasting friendships.

A die-hard Chicago Bears fan, Paulie bled orange and navy blue. His passion for music- especially Aerosmith- was something he shared with Kathi, as they loved going to concerts together, dancing and singing along. A lifelong NASCAR enthusiast, Paulie proudly camped at nearly every track across the United States, turning each race weekend into an unforgettable adventure with his camping crew. Camping with friends was more than a hobby-it was a passion, a tradition, and a way of life.

Paulie had a gift for making people feel at ease. Whether it was his quick wit, his stories, or his warm, welcoming presence, he made everyone feel like they belonged. His humor, generosity, and one-of-a-kind spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Sandra Lucy Burr Faloon

Sandra Lucy Burr Faloon, November 18, 1934 - March 13, 2025.
Sandra Lucy Burr Faloon, 90, died peacefully on March 13, 2025, in her home.
She was born on November 18, 1934, in Old Town, Maine, the third of five children born to Charles Allen Burr and Emma Letitia Hume. Sandra was the beloved wife of the late Ronald Carlton Faloon, with whom she shared almost 68 happy years of marriage.
An excellent student and member of the Howland High School girls’ basketball team she was voted fastest talker, best scribbler, and Miss Howland 1951.
Curious, independent, and motivated, she left Howland, Maine, for new opportunities in Connecticut where Ron soon followed, eventually settling in Rockville with their family of six children: Ronda, Terry, Kathleen, Brigid, Tracy, and Megan.
Active in her neighborhood, community, and St Joseph School and Church, Sandra taught gym classes, volunteered for numerous causes, led a Girl Scout troop, and was a proud member of NOW and The League of Women’s Voters.
Never one to turn down an adventure, Sandra packed up the family and moved to Barrington, Illinois, in the summer of 1977 when Ron was promoted. A woman of great faith, Sandra once again served. As a Eucharistic minister at St Anne’s church, she participated in scripture groups, volunteered at inner city churches, worked at soup kitchens, and brought communion to those at home. In 1990, Sandra went to work as a conference planner at The University of Saint Mary’s of the Lake where she planned events and hosted a long and varied list of spiritual leaders including Cardinal Joseph Bernardin and the renowned Buddhist Monk, Thich Nhat Hahn.
Retirement brought Sandra to Michigan City, Indiana, in 2000 where she and Ron built a wonderful life with new friends from Notre Dame Catholic Church and the Long Beach Community. An avid sun worshipper and snowbird for over 25 years, Sandra could be found in the winter months reading and smiling in the sun in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, her favorite spot on the Gulf of Mexico. And summers brought a return to her home state of Maine, hosting whichever “kids” could make it and enjoying the cool breezes and incredible sunsets on Frye Island.
A lifelong reader, bridge player, Jeopardy fan, and crossword puzzle aficionado, she belonged to book groups and libraries wherever she lived, always had a good book recommendation handy and loved a competitive game of cards, especially when she won.
Sandra was an excellent and generous cook and consummate hostess.
Everyone was invited and never wanting to run out of anything she often said that “she made enough food to feed an Ahmy” in her ever- present Maine accent. Her clam chowder, potato salad, and apple and blueberry pies were legendary -- and not just in her own mind.
Throughout her life she was acutely curious about the world, hosting numerous exchange students and traveling extensively throughout the U.S., Europe, and Latin America with Ron and her family. She cared intensely for others, near and far, and remained open-minded and progressive in her thinking throughout her long life. She believed it was never too late to learn and continued doing just that until the day she died.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Ron Faloon; brother, Charles Burr; and sisters, Barbara Chamberlain, Nancy Cote, and Carole Ames.
Sandra leaves behind her children, Ronda (Rob Chandler) Faloon, Terry (Aili Randruut) Faloon, Kathleen (Tom) Murray, Brigid (Kevin) Tuley, Tracy Faloon, and Megan Faloon; ten grandchildren, Cole Faloon, Eden Faloon Rosen, Reece Faloon, Emma Chandler, Maggie Chandler, Thomas Murray, Devin Murray, Maeve Rogers, Maura Tuley and Michaela Emerson; three great-grandchildren, Maisy Spicher, Freeman Rogers, and Ruthie Rosen; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, and friends too many to count.
She eagerly gave and received love and was generous with her smiles, her time, and her infinite amount of energy. She would be the first to say she was fortunate to have lived a full and happy life.
A Mass Celebrating Sandra's Life will be held at a later date at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Long Beach, Indiana. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington Street, Michigan City, Indiana is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sandra’s name at the Soup Kitchen at First United Methodist Church, Michigan City, https://mcindianaumc.org and/or Michigan City Public Library,

Dr. Janet was a member of and baptized at the First Baptist Church in La Porte. She graduated from La Porte High School in 1982.

Dr. Janet was drawn to animals from an early age, and felt an obligation to help care for animals for as long as she could remember. She attended pre-veterinary studies at Purdue N. Central regional campus. She worked as a kennel assistant, vet assistant, and grooming assistant until being admitted to Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine. Her externship senior vet year was at a Chicago-area exotic pet practice. She graduated with a DVM degree in 1991.

Dr. Janet’s first veterinary job was with a local veterinarian assisting on farm calls, small animal veterinary work, and emergencies.

In 1996, Dr. Janet bought Heinold Animal Hospital on Jackson Street, which became Maple City Animal Hospital. In July 2004, she designed and built a new animal hospital on Fail Road. She practiced veterinary medicine for over 33 years. She enjoyed seeing pets grow up over the years, and enjoyed solving veterinary mysteries.

Dr. Janet’s hobbies included crafting, sewing, puzzles, mystery novels, and gardening, besides caring for her own and the community’s pets.
