James "Jimmy" Allen Domogola, 62, of Michigan City, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022 at his home.

Jimmy was born on September 25, 1959, in La Porte, IN, to Ronald James Domogola and Nancy Lee (Renfro) Biller.

Surviving Jimmy are his mother, Nancy L. Biller; brothers, Ronnie (Donna) Domogola and Tommy (Chris) Domogola; sisters, Michelle (Bill) Mullins-Land and Tina (Dave) Naughton; stepson, Joe Rosetto; stepdaughters, Nicole Rosetto and MaRena Rosetto; grandsons, Austin, Cameron, Dallas, and Eyan; granddaughters, Mercedes and Savannah; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald J. Domogola, and girlfriend of 30 years, Tresha L. Miller-Rosetto.

Jimmy proudly served in the United States Army.

Jimmy was a landscaper, who genuinely enjoyed what he did.  He also enjoyed NASCAR racing, wrestling, watching the History Channel, and fixing things.  Mostly, Jimmy enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 3 - 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Military Honors being held at 4 p.m.

Susan Blankenship, 65, of La Porte, Indiana unexpectedly passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.

Susan was born March 10, 1957, in La Porte, Indiana to Thomas and Carol (Szynal) Spaeth.

Susan retired from Federal-Mogul after 25 years of service. She enjoyed going to musicals and singing in a band. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Susan is survived by her daughter, Laurel Blankenship of La Porte, Indiana; her son, Robinson J. (Elena) Semla of Buchanan, Michigan; three grandchildren, Bronko Semla, Liberty Semla, and Edward Semla; and her mother, Carol Spaeth. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Spaeth.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Holy Family Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 201 Bach Street, La Porte, Indiana. Reverend Ian Williams will officiate. Denise Geary, 58, of Michigan City, passed away peacefully at 1:56 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso.

She was born June 8, 1964, in Gary, Indiana, to Tommie Geary and Margarette Crowley.

Denise was a loving mother, sister, and grandmother. She took great pride in taking care of her family, especially for the grandchildren. Denise was creative in coming up with ways for the family to have fun activities to do. Her children remember the times they spent with her at Chellburg Farm and at the beach while the family lived in Chesterton. She previously worked as a Bank Manager at TCF Bank, Michigan City and formerly was employed for Chicago Cold Rolling, and Parco Foods in Michigan City.

Surviving are her two children, Christina Porter of Wanatah and Richard (Rachel) Blount of Mooresville; three siblings, Tammie (Bernie) Collinsworth of Hollywood, FL, Tommie Geary of South Haven, and Vickie Gill of Michigan City; step-sister, Jill Childers of Portage; half-sister, Sarah Porter of South Whitley; nine grandchildren, Jordyn Pryor, Aleena Porter, Daxton Porter, Brantley Porter, Isabella Blount, Layla Blount, Athena Blount, Gabriella Blount, and Jamesson Blount; and former son-in-law, Vincent Porter of Wanatah.

Preceding in death were her parents, Tommie Geary and Margarette Milcoff; one son, Nathan Blount; and stepfather, Roger Milcoff.

Thomas Fredenburg, 70, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at 9:32 a.m., Friday, June 24, 2022 in his home.

He was born November 19, 1951 in Michigan City, Indiana, to Gaylord and Olga (Kalk) Fredenburg.

Thomas was familiar with cars and restoring them. He had put his passion into fixing them and was an avid member of the Studebaker Driver Club for the last 50 years. Thomas will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

On June 23, 1973, in Michigan City, Indiana, Thomas married Chris (Burnett) Fredenburg, who survives.

Also surviving are his three children, Carrie Pineda of Carmel, Indiana, Justin (Christina) Fredenburg of Rolling Prairie, Indiana and Jillian (Taylor) Backs of Seymour, Indiana; ten grandchildren; three brothers, Rodney (Mary), Dennis (Sue), and Randy (Susan); and one sister, Lorrie Besemer.

Preceding in death were his parents; two sisters, Nadine Bauers and Barbara Rastenis; and three brothers, Douglas, Donald, and Virgil Fredenburg.

Douglas H. Brandt, 75, Michiana Shores, Indiana, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 6:30 pm in his home surrounded by his loving family.

The family has requested private cremation services.  Arrangements are being handled by the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.

He was born September 20, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Norman and Georgene (Christman) Brandt. On September 19, 1982 in Michigan City, Indiana he married Sherry Derr who survives in Michiana Shores, Indiana. Also surviving are a brother, Donald Brandt of Wheaton, Illinois and; Erik Bernethy, who was like a son to Doug along with Erik's sons Weston and Eli Bernethy.

Doug managed the former Tuholski Feed Store located on Chicago St., Michigan City, Indiana owned by Bortz Farm Store of La Porte, Indiana.  In 1983 Doug and his wife Sherry purchased the business and in 1990 relocated the business to it's present location 309 W. Michigan Blvd along with changing the name to Brandt's Old Fashion Feed Pet & Wildlife Emporium.  In 1997 Erik Bernethy joined the business as a stock person and in 2000 became operations manager.  Doug, Sherry, and Erik have grown their business & client base and have become a staple in the community, meeting the needs of pets and wildlife for over 39 years.  In 2012 Doug & Sherry retired and turned the business over to Erik.  Erik has followed the company’s goal developed by Doug, which is to "Consistently provide our valued customers with the products and services they want and need, for less money, more courteously and more knowledgeably than anyone else".  Doug was a very hard-working and dedicated businessman who always looked out for his employees.  Doug was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran having served in the Viet Nam war.  He enjoyed golfing, gardening, his pets and feeding the birds and wildlife were also a huge part of his life.

Justin Pearson of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on May 9, 2022 at the age of 34.   Justin is survived by his two children, Gage, age 8 and Odin, age 6 of Tampa, FL. He is also survived by his siblings; Jodi Pearson Reese of Ocala, FL; Lisa Pearson Weems of Blue Springs, MO; Connor Nash of Mishawaka, IN; and Isabella Lopez Alberola of Chicago, IL as well as his mother Elizabeth Riley Nash of Chicago, IL.  

Justin is preceded in death by his father Gregory Pearson of La Porte, IN; and both his paternal and maternal grandparents. 

Justin was born in La Porte, IN, and spent most of his childhood in the South Bend area before moving to Florida as a teenager. He loved to skateboard, listen to alternative music and play the guitar. Justin had an infectious laugh and gained much pleasure from making others laugh around him. He was sure to put a smile on your face.  

Justin has many relatives, family and friends that will miss him dearly, including the mother of his children, Ashley Behan of Tampa, FL, his "Brothers for Life" Brett and Adam Wallis, Marty Nash, who was like a father to him and step-grandparents Sandra and Thomas Nash.  

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN. where his family and friends will host a visitation, Saturday, July 2nd from 11a.m. to Noon, followed by a Celebration of Justin's life at Noon central time with Pastor Bob Vale, officiating. Interment will take place on Tuesday, July 5 at 10 AM at the Pine Lake Cemetery La Porte, IN. where Justin's cremated remains will be placed at the foot of his father's grave. 

A get together will follow the service Saturday at Casey's in La Porte from 1 to 5p.m.  Dishes are welcome.

Lester Ai Flanders, 81, of Blaine, TN, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022 at his daughter's home.

He was born on October 3, 1940 in Derry, NH, to Prentice and Alice (Normandeau) Flanders.

Lester is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Kulp Flanders; daughter, Leslie (Greg) Kaniuk of La Porte; stepdaughters, April Stamper of TN, Terri (Mark) Rye of Ruther Glen, VA, and Kristy Weaver of Knoxville, TN; sister, Mary (Bill) Meroff of Derry, NH; brother, Bruce Flanders of Derry, NH; as well as several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Warren and Wayne Flanders.

Lester proudly served in the U.S. Army.

Lester was a mechanic for many years.  He enjoyed his work repairing vending machines.  Lester also enjoyed woodworking, square dancing, photography and drawing.

A Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2022 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Keith White officiating.  At a later date, burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.

A time of visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Paul Michael Ross, 76, of La Porte, formerly Riverside, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at his home.

Paul was born on March 4, 1946 in Chicago, IL, to Paul and Carmela (Mancini) Ross.

On November 8, 1980 in Riverside, IL, he married Barbara Jane Earle who survives.  Also surviving are his sons, Paul (Simone) Ross of Palos Hills, IL and Christopher Ross of La Porte; 3 grandchildren, Jessalyn, Jionna, and Gregory "Turtle"; sister, Gloria Maruska of North Riverside, IL; nieces, Vicki and Becky; nephews, Anthony, Michael, Joseph, and Scott; brother in laws, Ken (Carol) and Stephen; as well as 2 dogs, Bella and Leela.

He was preceded by his parents and brother-in-law, Vic Maruska.

Paul was a Mechanical Engineer, an avid worker in and out of the house, and enjoyed watching movies.  He loved Christmas, collecting Santa Claus paraphernalia, and decorating for the holidays.  Paul did not have one singular hobby; he loved doing whatever interested his family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2022 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

Judith “Judy” Cichon, 80, of La Porte, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022 with loved ones by her side.

She was born on October 29,1941, in La Porte, Indiana, to John and Lillian (Dunham) Grimes.

On May 13, 1961, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Porte, Indiana, she married David “Dave” Cichon, who survives.

Judy will be dearly missed by her children, Mark Cichon of Madison, Wisconsin and Diane (Brett) Searle of La Porte. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Andrew Searle, Alison (Nick) Foster, and Betsy Searle.

Preceding in death were her parents; and one brother, Dale Grimes.

A lifelong resident of LaPorte, Judy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she helped serve at their food pantry. She worked for the La Porte Community School Corporation, employed as a teacher assistant at Riley Elementary School retiring in 1995. Judy enjoyed many international vacation trips and wintering in Florida with her husband and went on fun adventures with her girlfriends. She would not miss attending all of her grandchildren’s tennis games, award ceremonies, and plays. Judy also enjoyed all the family get togethers, reading, making handmade stamped greeting cards, and sitting around the campfire with family and friends.

Joan Kramer, 63, of La Porte, Indiana passed away unexpectedly at her home Tuesday, June 21, 2022. She was born on August 11, 1958, in La Porte to Frank Muller and Frances (Grott) Muller.

On August 27th, 1977, Joan married Bruce Kramer who survives, along with their children, Corey Kramer of La Porte, Adam (Abbie) Kramer of La Porte; her mother, Frances Muller of La Porte; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Leo, Crew, and Kellan; sister-in-law, Julie Muller of La Porte; and siblings, Pete (Chris) Muller of La Porte, Frank (Debbie) Muller of La Porte, Paul (Cindy) Muller of Rock Falls, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her father Frank and brothers Jim and Tom Muller. 

Joan had been employed with the La Porte Community Schools in Food Service and was a seamstress. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, Sacred Heart Church. She was passionate about painting and enjoyed filling her home with her

artwork.  She also had a wonderful green thumb and surrounded herself with as many flowers and plants as she could get her hands on.  Above all, Joan loved spending time with her family, and made wonderful memories with her grandchildren that they will forever cherish.

Sheila Jeanette Noveroske, 85, of La Porte, Indiana passed away Monday, June 20, 2022.

Sheila was born May 22, 1937, in La Porte, Indiana to Donald Sr. and Florence (Glanders) Severs.

On June 14, 1958, Sheila married John Noveroske Sr. who survives.

Sheila worked at La Porte Bank and Trust for 43 years in numerous roles from teller, to branch manager, to investments. She also worked at First Source Bank for four years until she retired in 1998. She was also a member of Holy Family Parish, St. Peter Church and the Rosary Society. She enjoyed playing Bridge and Pinochle.  

Sheila is survived by her husband, John Sr.; children, Douglas (Joan) Noveroske of Michigan City, John Noveroske Jr. of La Porte, Judith (Kerry) Ginther of Rolling Prairie, Gary (Diane) Noveroske of La Porte, Patrick (Jennifer) Noveroske of Union Mills; grandchildren, Toni, Kyle, Amanda, Ashley, Duston, Emmily, Tyler, Hannah, Drew, Spencer, Holly, Violet, Max, Lucas, and Vivienne; great-grandchildren, Colton, Mackenzie, Jaxon and Julian;  a brother-in-law, Paul (Reathel) Noveroske Sr. and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a great grandson, Levi Pattengale, and siblings, Beverly Severs, Roger Severs, Shirley (Harold) Buckmaster, Phyllis (James) Hopper, and Donald (Darlene) Severs, Jr.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2022, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.  A Parish Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Holy Family Parish, St. Peter Catholic Church. Reverend Nate Edquist will officiate.  Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery. Family and friends may gather at 9 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home prior to the Mass.

Theresa Ann Raschka, 61, of Michigan City, entered the gates of Heaven on Monday, June 20, 2022.  She was surrounded by those who loved her when she left this world.

Theresa was born on May 4, 1961 in Michigan City, IN, to Roy Dale and Catherine Helen (Keen) Killingbeck.

Surviving Theresa are her children, John Raschka of Michigan City and Krystal (Henry) Antrim of Valparaiso; 10 grandchildren, Chandler, Xavier, Kaleb, Chanisty, Xavia, Tobias, Peyton, Kalista, Tokora, and Paisley; significant other, Ralph Raschka; siblings, Robin Killingbeck, James (Rita) Killingbeck, Thomas (Paulina) Killingbeck, Mary (Greg) Blackford, Michelle Killingbeck-Sizemore, and Carrie (Josh) Jackson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Killingbeck; mother and stepfather, Catherine (Charles) Logan; and aunt and uncle, Judy (Warren) Kindig.

Theresa was a sales associate for many years.  She enjoyed crocheting.  Theresa had a love for elephants, which she collected throughout the years.  Most importantly, Theresa dearly loved spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren.

A Private Celebration of Life Service will be held at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

Ivah W. Shoaf, 95, of Mishawaka, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Wedgewood Pines Group Home in South Bend.

Ivah was born on June 17, 1927 in Taegue, South Korea to SongYoung and Pak Ho.

On December 28, 1955 in Pusan, Korea, she married Marvin W. Shoaf who preceded her in death.  Surviving are her three children, Joan Ackley of Mishawaka, Peter (Becky) Shoaf of Kingsford Heights, Robert Shoaf of Mishawaka; 3 grandsons; 2 great-grandsons; 1 great-granddaughter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her parents; husband; daughter, Jean; great-grandson, Jonathon, and great-granddaughter, Katie. 

A Private Family Service will be held.  Burial will take place at Kingsbury Cemetery.

Brian L. Januchowski, 60, Michigan City, IN, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 12:38 pm in Franciscan Health - Michigan City

He was born July 20, 1961 in Michigan City, IN. 

Surviving are his daughter, Amber Januchowski of Michigan City, IN; grandchild, Maddi; his mother, Patricia Januchowski of Michigan City, IN; and brother, Mark Januchowski of Trail Creek, IN.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Januchowski; and brother, Michael Januchowski.   

Brian had worked in environmental services for Sodexo. He enjoyed fishing, motorcycle riding, and old movies.

Donna Bernice Butler, 82, of La Porte, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Northwest Health - La Porte.

Donna was born on December 30, 1939 in La Porte, IN, to Eugene S. and Sophia (Vermilyer) Newland.

On December 15, 1956 in La Porte, IN, she married Carney Butler, Sr. who preceded her in death.  Surviving Donna are her children, Patti (Tim) Swanson of La Porte, Phyllis (John) Benson of Rolling Prairie, Carney Butler, Jr. of La Porte, and Sherry (Bob) Younggreen of La Crosse; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sister, Charlotte (William) Miller of Blair, WI; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her parents; son, Daniel L. Butler; and brother, Donald Newland, Sr.

Donna was a meat cutter for over 25 years at National Foods in La Porte and K&M in Michigan City.  She later provided childcare at the YMCA for over 10 years.  Donna enjoyed camping, fishing, crafting, visiting garage sales, and collecting Beanie Babies.  She particularly enjoyed traveling to Florida with her family.  Donna loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with John Churchill officiating.  Cremation will follow the service.

A time of visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Julie A. Szczesniak, 74, of Westville, Indiana, passed away Friday June 17, 2022 at her home with her family by her side.

She was born November 15, 1947 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Dan Cook and Ruth Ann Cook.

Julie held many things close to her heart, most importantly hew family and her dog "Tucker". She enjoyed shopping, watching "Wheel of Fortune", and planting and growing her flowers. The family Christmas gatherings were truly an event the entire family looked forward to each year.

Jacob Clement “Papa” Pizarek, 99, of rural Wamego, Kansas, formerly of rural LaPorte, Indiana, went to Heaven on Trinity Sunday, June 12, 2022 at home with the comfort of his family.

Jacob, referred to as “Jake” by many, was born at home on the family farm just outside of Michigan City, Indiana joining 3 older brothers and 2 older sisters, with 2 younger sisters and 1 younger brother to join them. He attended St Mary of the Immaculate Conception Grade School, completing 8^th Grade. Even though his Catholic religious beliefs have always been a key part of his life, he was more interested in being outside doing farm work and enjoying nature, rather than being in school.

As a boy, Jake enjoyed actively helping on the family farm in the fields and with livestock, in earlier years they took milk to town from their dairy cows to the local company and peddled eggs. He took care of the chickens, raised rabbits for meat, and loved working with and riding horses. He enjoyed growing up in simpler times when they were proud to be owners of some of the first cars to be used for transportation. He told many fond stories about riding a “streetcar” to school, then driving his Mother around in the car as early as 12 years old!

Jake was drafted in the Army in 1943 and sent to Camp Carson Colorado for Basic Training, but discharged before completion and sent home, as his father died unexpectedly. In 1944, he was called back to serve by being sent to Fort Sill Oklahoma to retake Basic Training. He always joked about how much fun it was that time, as he knew what was coming next in the training, so could answer the questions and do well. He was sent to Italy during World War II serving in the 10^th Mountain Division Mule Pack Field Artillery, and was so proud to have been in the 10^th Mountain with Bob Dole, who later became Senator in Kansas. Jacob told the story to everyone about how he saw Bob Dole being carried off the field when he had been hit by enemy fire, and always added, “I said a prayer for him.” He was extremely excited when he got to meet and visit with Senator Dole in 2015 while participating in Chicago Honor Flight to Washington, DC. While on the trip, Jacob was overwhelmed with exhaustion from all the festivities and was hospitalized, and another highlight in his memory was that Senator Dole called him on the phone to check on him. In December 2021, Jacob was given front row seating at the Memorial Service for Senator Bob Dole in the Topeka Capitol, and met Elizabeth Dole after it, being given a special coin as a remembrance.

After discharging from the Army in 1946, he drove a school bus on which there was a Senior girl with whom he had an interest. She was someone whom he had known since her birth, since their fathers were really good friends. He loved to tell the story about how one day when he was about 10 and she was about 4, his Dad said, “Go over there and sit on that log next to her, as you might marry her someday.” On April 24, 1948 Jacob married Janet Louise Herrbach at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Michigan City, Indiana. Jacob received several other Sacraments there - Baptism, 1^st Holy Communion, Confirmation being given the name Patrick, and he was a Server at Mass. He used to talk extensively about how his Great Grandfather had been one of the Founding Fathers of the Church helping to build it when he came here from Europe. He was proud to have his 2 children attend 12 years of Catholic education there. In later years he joined Queen of All Saints Catholic Parish in Michigan City. Jacob was dedicated in always participating at Sunday Mass, only missing when he was sick. He also enjoyed the Parishes of Seven Dolors and St. Isidore’s Catholic Student Center in Manhattan, Kansas.

Jake was a member of Coolspring Township Farm Bureau, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He very much enjoyed the LaPorte County Fair, taking vacation that week each year to spend with his daughter, Cherie, helping her wash her steers at 5 AM getting them ready for the 4-H Beef Show, even sleeping in the back of the truck or van at the Fair. He loved gardening and growing vegetables. “Papa” was a fun-loving cheerful man who enjoyed playing all kinds of card games, especially pinochle. He loved all kinds of animals. “Papa” never knew a stranger, and loved to talk to anyone. He loved to dance, especially the “Polka” or as he called it “Polish Hop”.

During their early married life, Jacob with Janet and their young son “Tommy”, traveled the country taking jobs mostly on Dairy Farms in New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and then back in Indiana. Jacob worked in construction jobs, talking about how he helped build a big church on Valparaiso University, then he became a plumber, before eventually working as Maintenance Man fixing all the machines when they would break, in Appleton Factory, then 23 years at Dwyer Instruments, both at Michigan City. He was retired for 36 years, and was elated to be able to attend the Dwyer Christmas Party with his daughter in 2019.

Jacob led a full life, gardening and puttering around on his John Deere lawn tractor until only 2 years ago. Due to declining health, he and Janet moved to Wamego, Kansas to be cared for by his son-in-law and daughter in November 2020. “Papa” always had a goal to live to be 100 and be married 75 years – he was less than 1 year from reaching those goals. He was excited that he probably was the oldest living male in all of his known family and relatives. When his health was faltering in these last couple months, a 99 Birthday Celebration was planned in May, complete with a Parade of Veteran motorcycles and cars filled with Accord Hospice employees, thanks to the Manhattan American Legion. A special thank you to Father Gale Hammerschmidt for giving him comfort recently with Last Rights.

James “Jim” Cartwright, 69, of Mishawaka, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family, passed away on June 15, 2022, following a lengthy illness.

Jim was born July 27, 1952, in La Porte, Indiana, to the late Dr. Jack and Ruth (Swanson) Cartwright.

After attending La Porte High School, Jim served as a Naval Corpsman for the United States Navy and was stationed at the Naval Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. From there, Jim attended Indiana University where he pursued a degree in Criminal Justice and graduated from the Indiana University Police Academy in 1977.

Jim became a Police Officer for the Indiana University Police Department and later was promoted to sergeant before returning to La Porte. Once he made his way home, he owned and operated Pine Lake Marina and Midwest Marine Surveyors.

Jim married his wife Kelle (Mullins) Cartwright on October 24, 1992, in Michigan City, Indiana, and later moved to Mishawaka, Indiana, where he finished his career in Advertising Sales.

Jim had many hobbies throughout his lifetime.  He could often be found building websites which during his retirement became a side business.  In addition, he enjoyed flying remote control airplanes and was a member of the Michiana R.C. Pylon Racing Association where he sat on their executive board for a few years.

Jim also loved to travel.  His favorite vacations were spent in Lake Tahoe and Jamaica.  Throughout the years, Jim made many wonderful memories in his own yard with his Steeplechase family.  Spending time laughing and telling stories with family and friends whether on the lake, around a bonfire, or at a bar was what Jim enjoyed most.

Jim is survived by his wife, Kelle Cartwright of Mishawaka, Indiana; his children, Brian (Renae) Cartwright of Bedford, Indiana, and Victoria (Dylan Pflughaupt-fiancé) Cartwright of Chicago, Illinois; his granddaughter, Olivia Cartwright of Bedford, Indiana; his sister, Beth (Kurt) Hodges of Tallahassee, Florida; his father in-law, Clarence Mullins of Mishawaka, Indiana; his sisters-in-law, Tracey (Jeff) Cummins of La Porte, Indiana, and Jeanne Cartwright of La Porte, Indiana; and three nephews, Colby Cummins of La Porte, Indiana, Brayden Cummins of Des Plaines, Illinois, and Tony Neumann of La Porte, Indiana.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert (Bob) Cartwright, and mother-in-law, Antoinette (Sis) Mullins.

Lee C. Meyer, 71, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Monday, June 13, 2022 at 8:58 am in his home.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, June 20, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church, 121 W. 9th St., Michigan City, IN with Rev. Dr. Ericka Parkinson Kilbourne officiating. Private burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 am - 11:00 am, Monday at the church. He was born July 12, 1950 in Michigan City, IN to the late Charles and Beulah (Will) Meyer. On June 7, 1987 in Michigan City, IN he married Laura Henckel who survives in Michigan City, IN.

Also surviving are a step-daughter, Angie (Zig) Resiak of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Aaron, Christian and Anna; and three great-grandchildren, Ava, Michael and Bryan.

He was also preceded in death by his step-son, Tony DiGiacomo; and two brothers, Brian and Jack Meyer.   

Lee was a well-known local musician and music instructor. He received his Masters of Music Degree from the American Conservatory in Chicago, IL.  He was the director of the Michigan City Community Chorus and involved with Monday Musicale and several local theatre groups.

Margaret Jane Bailey, on Sunday June 12, 2022, Heaven rejoiced that Jane Bailey entered through the pearly gates.

Margaret Jane Pollock was born in La Porte, Indiana February 2, 1947.

Jane was a beloved sister and aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her mother Joyce Rea and by her brother Robert Rea. Surviving are her siblings Frank (Carol) Davis, Tom Davis, Donna Brown, Diana Blair whom all live locally.

Jane had many hobbies and interests; ceramics, needlepoint, horseback riding, bowling and she was a bit of a card shark!There was always a table with a puzzle in progress and Yahtzee was a favorite of hers as well and a tradition on New Years Eve. She was employed in several different plastics factories and at Haven Hubbard Home. Jane had a loving and generous heart for her family and friends. Her kindness and laughter will be remembered always by those who knew her.

Gene Raymond Bancroft, 82, of Michigan City, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at Northwest Health - La Porte.

Gene was born on February 5, 1940 in Niles, MI, to Edgar and Theola M.(Krueger) Bancroft.

On April 10, 1959 in Michigan City, IN, he married his high school sweetheart, Yvonne Mae Seedorf who survives.  Also surviving are his 5 children, Kimberly (Don) Zahrn of La Porte, Kristi (Marshall Hamlin) Kowalski of La Porte, Kip (Stacy) Bancroft of New Palenstine, Kari (Dan) Barenie of Michigan City, and Kelly (Allan) Wozniak of Michigan City; 11 grandchildren, Stephanie (Jamie) Moxley, Emily (Renan) Oliveria, Daniel Barenie, Elliot (Abby) Manges, Alex (Emily) Barenie, Sara (Matt) Rosetto, Jessica (Zachariah) Hughes, Nigel (Taylor) Bancroft, Joshua (Samantha) Wozniak, Conner (Morrigan) Kowalski, and Katie Jo Bancroft; 16 great-grandchildren, Brooke, Paige, Makenna, Chase, Carter, Cooper, Colton, Kian, Hattie, Parker, Tristin, Wesley, Evelyn, Watson, Walden, and one due in November; brother, Keith Bancroft; sisters-in-law, Sharon Sabinske, Terri Sherwood, and Patricia (Larry) Sherwood; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Gene loved his wife and his family was his greatest joy.  He was a past Master of Masonic Lodge #83 and a past President of the Michiana Lions Club.

Loretta R. Vaughn, 90, of La Porte, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022 in La Porte.

Loretta was born in North Judson, IN, on September 12, 1931 to Dewey and Eunice (Vaughn) Scott. 

Surviving are her beloved children, Sharon (Alex) Gurbatow and Norma (John) Mulzon, both of La Porte; 2 grandchildren, Carie (Bruce) Roberts of La Porte and William Mulzon of La Porte; 6 great-grandchildren, Bryce and Brendan Roberts, Jessica Frankowski, Madison and Mason Mulzon, and Logan Bline; 2 great, great-grandsons, Jackson and Stanlee Frankowski; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ed Fisher and Elvin Z. Vaughn; 4 sisters; 4 brothers; 2 granddaughters, Corin Mulzon and Caitlin Mulzon Foreman; and 1 grandson, Matthew Bline.

Loretta was a factory worker for Indiana Molding and American Home Foods. She was a former member of the FOE (Eagles) and the Women's Westville American Legion Unit 21 for 25 years.  Loretta enjoyed playing bingo.

Debra Lynn Halfacre, 60, of Michigan City, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL. surrounded by her family.

She was born May 8, 1962, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Carl and Shirley (Means) Childers.

Debra was a homemaker who deeply cared for her family. She was incredibly sweet and kindhearted. She cherished every moment she spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren. 

On December 6, 1986, in Michigan City, Indiana, she married Daniel “Dan” Lloyd Halfacre Sr., who survives.

Also surviving are her mother, Shirley Childers of Portage; four children, Amber (Brad) Benninghoff of Rolling Prairie, Daniel Lloyd Halfacre Jr. of Michigan City, Heather (Phil) Halfacre of Rolling Prairie, and Hayley (Kevin) Halfacre of Michigan City; two siblings, Diane Kamont of Michigan City and Jeffrey (Charissa) Childers of Portage; ten grandchildren, Colin, Kylee, Caleb, Peighton, Conner, Miles, Phoenix, Kayli, Rhylen, and Kinley; one grandson on the way, Ivin; and mother-in-law, Joyce Halfacre of Michigan City.

Preceding in death were her father, Carl Childers Sr.; and one brother, Carol J. Childers Jr.

A funeral celebrating her life will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2022 at Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Janet Smith, 72, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, passed away Friday June 10, 2022 at her home.

She was born May 15, 1950 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Charles Manzuk and Diana Benjamin.

Janet was a lifelong resident of La Porte.  She was an auxiliary member of the VFW Post 9423 (Daughter of Foreign Wars) in Rolling Prairie as well as The Daughters of the American Legion in New Carlisle.   Janet loved to cook, watch TV, especially Court shows and "Everybody Loves Raymond".  She enjoyed listening to music, especially 80's music and The Beatles.

She is survived by her two sons, Jeffery (Jessica Stacy) Smith of Rolling Prairie, James Smith, Jr. of Bessemer AL; two brothers, Chuck (Claudia) Manzuk of Hudson Lake, Dean Manzuk of Rolling Prairie; seven grandchildren, Alec, Leann, Ethan, Zowey; Toni, Jamie, and Emily; three great-grandchildren, Addilyn, James Avery, and Julius;

Janet was preceded in death by her brothers Bob Manzuk, Bill "Wink" Manzuk, and Gerald Manzuk.

David Leonard Ohime, 71, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Tuesday June 7, 2022 at his home in Mishawaka, IN.

He was born December 5, 1950 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Clarence F. Ohime and Marguerite (Weber) Ohime.

David went to Stillwell and upon his graduation from La Porte High School, went in to the Navy for 4 years during the Vietnam War. David was known as a neat freak and a stay-at-home guy who liked to mow the grass. Many times, he would mow his neighbor’s grass just for the fun of it. He was avid learner about the history of Laporte County and enjoyed taking time to drive around the La Porte area.

He is survived by his sisters, Janice (David) Price of La Porte, and Darlene Ohime of Union Mills; and a brother, John (Sandra) Ohime of South Bend, IN;

David was preceded in death by his parents.

Dianne Hill, 87, of Michigan City, Indiana passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022.

Dianne was born January 3, 1935 in La Porte, Indiana to the late Judd and Dorothy (Cockrell) Garrison.

On September 29, 1951, Dianne married Nathan Hill who preceded her in death on September 8, 2008.

Dianne is survived by her children, Patsy (Doug) Utpatel of La Porte, Indiana, and Joan (Herman) Howard of New Carlisle, Indiana; a daughter-in-law, Lynn Hill of New Carlisle, Indiana; five grandchildren, Mandy, Brian, Valerie, Billy, and George; eight great-grandchildren, Eli, Chayse, Addison, Colton, Carter, Raylee, Hannah, and Wyatt; a great great-grandson, Everett; and a sister, Carol Arndt of La Porte, Indiana.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nathan; son, Judd Hill; two sisters, Winifred Bennett, and Dorothy Cook; and two brothers, Sonny Garrison, and William Garrison.

Dianne was retired from American Rubber with over 35 years of service. She was a member of the Meer Road Community Baptist Church in Michigan City. She supported the Cystic Fibrosis foundation and enjoyed playing bingo, crossword puzzles, cooking, and baking, especially her famous zucchini bread.

Lois Ruth Dawson, 95, of Kingsford Heights, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 in La Porte

Lois was born on May 11, 1927 in Porterville, IL, to Eugene C. and Mary E. (Faught) Hills.

On September 22, 1945 in La Porte, IN, she married Forrest E. Dawson when he returned home from overseas after World War II.  Forrest preceded her in death on February 22, 2003.

She is survived by her daughter, Barb (Rick) DeCamp of La Porte; son, Bob (Angi) Dawson of Union Mills; grandchildren, David (Shannon) Dawson of La Porte, Scott (Summer) Dawson of North Liberty, Jennifer (Patrick) Drewry of Indianapolis, Drew (Chrissy) Tibbs of Westville, Rebecca Tibbs of La Porte, and Courtney (Todd) Deutscher of La Porte; great-grandchildren, Ben, Sam, Violet, Justin, Dane, Jessica (Travis), Jordan, Hailey, Aliyah, Grady, Jordy, Reed, Makenzie, Levi, Kennedy, and Chandler; and 1 great, great-granddaughter, Mia.

In addition to her parents and husband, Forrest, Lois was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Lingafelter; brother, Eugene Hills, Jr.; son-in-law, Rick DeCamp; and grandson, Jeffrey DeCamp.

Lois enjoyed serving as the Assistant Clerk Treasurer of Kingsford Heights for many years because she loved people.  She was a member of the Kingsford Heights Zook-Farrington American Legion Post 434 Auxiliary.  Previously, she was an officer in the Hoosier Boys Club as well as a Sunday School teacher for many years at the Wesleyan Church in Kingsford Heights.

She enjoyed going for her daily walks, reading, crocheting, and tending to her flowers.  Family will forever remember the meals she lovingly prepared for every holiday.

Lois lived in the same house since 1948 and everyone knew her as Nana.  She loved people and they loved her.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2022 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.  Burial will follow at Kingsbury Cemetery.

Madelyn "Maddie" Sue Lynn, 64, of La Porte, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022 at Golden Living Center, La Porte.

Maddie was born on October 17, 1957 in Princeton, IN, to George and Geraldine (Reed) Fettinger.

On June 7, 1982 in Oklahoma City, OK, she married Mark Alan who preceded her in death on March 1, 2021.  Surviving Maddie are her children, Ashley Vandemark of La Porte, IN, Brent (Heather) Lynn of Arkansas City, KS, and Brandon Hire of Oklahoma City, OK; 6 grandchildren, Mackenzie Weaver of La Porte, IN, Chase O'Connell of Fort Wayne, IN, Harrison and Waylon Lynn of Arkansas City, KS, and Lily and Landon Hire of Oklahoma City, OK; siblings, Mike Fettinger of Bloomington, IN and Miles Fettinger of La Porte; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Maddie was a member of the DAR.  She enjoyed watching old movies and snacks.  Maddie will be remembered as someone who enjoyed chatting and catching up with friends and family.

Maddie was such a fun lady, who always needed to have her nails painted.  She was dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Herman Hammonds, 83, of La Porte, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Northwest Health - La Porte.

Herman was born on July 18, 1938 in Cookeville, TN, to Horace Ervin and Auda (Woolbright) Hammonds.

On November 22, 1958, Herman married Gail Joyce Kerchner who preceded him in death.  Later on May 22, 1999 in La Porte, IN, he married Debra Kay Snyder-Mattozzi who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Kathy Gregorich of Granger, Wanda Stone-Burkhart of La Porte, Rebecca Mills of La Porte, Pam (Rick) Holbrook of St. Pete Beach, FL, and Jeff (Lori) Hammonds of Loxley, AL; 2 stepdaughters, Kimberly Spencer of New Carlisle and Sandra (Mat) Ernst of Rolling Prairie; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 2 great, great-grandchildren; brother, Howard Hammonds of TN; half-sisters, Joy Hughes of La Porte and Barbara Russell of FL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Gail Joyce Hammonds; brothers, Truman and  Demas Hammonds; sister, Francis Smith; half-brother, Gene Hammons; granddaughter, Susan E. Stone; and sons-in-law, Mike Gregorich, Jerry Mills, and Chuck Burkhart.

Herman was an auto body repairman.  He enjoyed antique cars, watching/playing volleyball, gardening, dancing, and general yard work.  Herman mostly enjoyed spending time with family.

A time of visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Marvin White, 91, of Walkerton (Fish Lake), passed away peacefully at 6:38 p.m., Saturday, June 4, 2022 in his home.

He was born May 19, 1931, in Duco, Kentucky, to Riley and Flora (Collins) White.

In his earlier years, Marv was part of a band of six-members called, The Half Mountain Hot Shots, where they showcased their country and blue grass music on a radio show WSIP out of Paintsville, Kentucky. He and his wife, Olean,  recorded a gospel album in 1969 in Lima, Ohio.

Marv retired as Plant Superintendent from Independent Steel and Casting on January 3, 1986. He was past member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was the song leader and guitar player. Marv also played guitar for First Baptist Church, Walkerton, for 35 years. He was a current member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Marv did not play golf until the age of 60 years old. He managed to make six holes in one since his start of playing golf, winning himself many trophies. Marv enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and was known for his vegetable gardening. He loved his family deeply and will be dearly missed by all.

On April 28, 1951, in Winamac, Indiana, he married Olean (Parks) White, who preceded him in death March 26, 2017.

Also preceding in death were his parents; one daughter, Carmalee Tanksley; one brother and his wife, William Jay and Marylee White; two brothers, James White and Dennis Collins; one sister, Christine Vanloon; one brother-in-law, Robert Smith; and one daughter-in-law, Antoinette “Sis” Mullins.

Surviving are his three sons, Clarence (Jo Hein) Mullins of Mishawaka, Jerry Lynn (Edith) White of Obbach, Germany, and Russell Jay (Cindy) White of Summerfield, FL; three brothers, Burl C. (Faye) White of Kingsbury, Vongray (Sharen) Collins and Paul Edward Collins both of Salyersville, Kentucky; five sisters, Imojean Smith of Walkerton, Cleo Collins of Rensselaer, and Wilma Risner, Wanda Sue (Jack) Jordan, and Martha Perkins all of Salyersville, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.

A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 10, 2022 at Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, (219) 362-3100 with Pastor Jason Burrick officiating. Wesley "Charlie Ritchie, 69, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 at 8:55 am in his home.

He was born April 25, 1953 in Hazard, KY to the late George and Rose Ann Lee (Richie) Ritchie. On June 25, 1983 in La Porte, IN he married Debra Hooper who survives in Michigan City, IN.

Also surviving are a daughter, Valentine (James) Woods of Rolling Prairie, IN; three sons, Wesley (Melissa) Ritchie of La Porte, IN, Rodney Ritchie of Michigan City, IN and Ryan Wingard of Michigan City, IN; grandchildren, Nichole, James, Ashton, Andrea, Alana, Rachel, Rodney  and Bryar; great-grandchild, Carter; sister, Margaret Green of Tennessee; and his twin brother, Leslie (Brenda) Ritchie of Hindman, KY.

He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Rod Shepherd and Speedy Shepherd. 

Charlie was a retired painter and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era. He enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, off-road riding, playing dice and being with his family. Charlie was a very prideful man.

Donald  Leroy Page, Jr. , 70, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022.

Donald was born on February 22, 1952 in Alton, IL, to Donald and Colene (Hatfield) Page.

Surviving Donald are his children, Kimberly S. Jarnecke of Niles, MI, David M. (Bri Evans) Page of Westville, IN, and Christine M. Taylor of La Porte, IN; 9 grandchildren; mother, Colene (Hatfield) Page of Godfrey, IL; 5 sisters, Terri (Don) Cloninger of Alton, IL, Judy (Rick) Kylmala of Kilgore, TX, Janet (Tim) Christopher of Mercedes, TX, Pat (Greg) Moore of Stewart, FL and Karen (Ed) Stannard of Alton, IL; many nieces and nephews; as well as the mother of his children, Cathy S. Youngberg of La Porte, IN.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Leroy Page, Sr.

Donald graduated from Greenville College with a bachelor's degree in biology.  At 24, he established Raymond's Guns and Ammo in Alton, IL.  Within 3 years, Donald had built his business to the point that he needed to expand to a larger building and was joined by his father, who retired from Shell so that he could help his son.  Donald Jr. was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the NRA.  He was the President of Migratory Waterfowl.  Donald was an Eagle Scout, who enjoyed fishing and hunting.  Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with family, particularly his 9 grandchildren.

Patricia A. Baird, 85, Michigan City, IN, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022 at 12:17 pm in Franciscan Health - Michigan City.

She was born April 7, 1937 in Valparaiso, IN to the late Daniel and Louise (Morris) Petralias. On July 24, 1954 in Valparaiso, IN she married John Baird who survives in Michigan City, IN.

Also surviving are two daughters, Deborah Baird and Judy (Douglas) Smith, both of Michigan City, IN; grandchild, Marcy Tanski; great-grandchild, Josephine Bourn; and her sister, Phyllis Smith.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Baird; grandchild, Matthew Tanski; and sister, Pauline Petralias. 

Pat was the retired owner of the Alibi Inn, Valparaiso, IN. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed traveling and spending the Winter in Florida.

Brian Timothy “Tim” Backer passed away at his home in South Bend, Indiana on May 29, 2022.

Tim was born at Holy Family Hospital, La Porte IN Dec. 28, 1960, the son of Drs. George P. and M. Barbara Backer and was baptized at St. Peter Catholic Church in LaPorte.

He attended the La Porte Community Schools graduating from La Porte High School in 1979.  He was an excellent student and received the National Merit Scholarship as a senior.  Tim attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut for his freshman year.   The rest of his formal education was at Indiana University Bloomington where he graduated with a degree in English in 1986 and Indiana University South Bend where he received a Master’s degree in Music Composition in 1996.

Tim was hampered during his adult life by schizophrenia but received support from dedicated mental health professionals and his loving family.  Despite this handicap he had a rich life with his interests in music and the arts.  From early childhood he loved music and played multiple instruments including piano, double bass, and electric guitar.  His music interests were eclectic—classical and medieval music, popular music from the 1960s and 1970s and then electronic music.  He composed music throughout his life, producing CDs and later posted his works on the Internet.  He later began painting and surrounded himself in his home with his own and other artists’ works.  He wrote poetry throughout his life and published a small selection.  He was devoted to study of William Blake’s poetry and art.  While a student at IUSB he became interested in Chinese music and literature.  He was particularly interested in Taoism and found their concepts comforting toward the end of his life.

Tim never married. He was predeceased by his father.  He is survived by his mother and siblings Linda (David) Sirugo, M.D. of La Porte, Mark Backer, PhD of San Carlos, CA, David (Mary) Backer, Carlsbad, CA, and Laura Backer, M.D., Bellingham, WA.

Tim was buried in the Backer family plot at Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte after a private service officiated by Fr. John "Jack" Steven  Matuszak, 69, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 11:47 pm in his home after a lengthy illness with his family by his side.

Jack was born May 25, 1953, in Michigan City, Indiana to Stella and John Matuszak.

In 1976 Jack graduated from Indiana University. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1985.  He received a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame In 1989.

For 25 years Jack owned and operated the Lake Station Dairy Queen.  He loved going to work every day.  Jack was especially close to his many employees and strived to show them the value of education and hard work.

He served as an advisor to the Junior Achievement Program. He was a board member of the Michigan City Enrichment Corporation and a member of the Exchange Club.  He also served as Treasurer of the Notre Dame Alumni Association and the Saint Joseph’s Young Mens Society.  He served as president of the Dunescape Beach Club homeowner’s Association.

He enjoyed his cars, golf, and the beauty of Lake Michigan.

More than anything Jack cherished his family and his many long-lasting friendships.

He is survived by sister Jane of Cary, NC, brother Jim (Cathy) of Traverse City, MI and nieces Natalie (Julien) Emmanuel of Orlando, FL and Diana (Tyler) Hansen of Aviano AFB, Italy.

Daisy "Pauline" Clowers, 87, of New Carlisle, passed away peacefully at 3:19 p.m., Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Hamilton Grove, New Carlisle.

She was born June 3, 1934, in Harriman, Tennessee, to William F. and Tennie Bell (Stegall) McGaha.

Pauline was a member of the Fish Lake Church and former member of the La Porte Assembly of God where at both she taught Sunday school. She formerly was an active volunteer, volunteering at Countryside and Fountainview Nursing Homes in La Porte. Her and her friends, Lori and Wayne would visit the homes as well and perform for the residents, singing and playing guitar. She was a talented song writer, guitar player, and writer, writing her own book called, Death Comes to Visit. Pauline loved to sing, You Are My Sunshine, to the ones she loved and knew. She was deeply loved by everyone and she loved everyone back. Pauline was a homemaker who deeply cared for her family. Most of the grandchildren will remember and cherish the times they spent with her especially baking cookies together.

On November 2, 1952, in La Porte, Indiana, Pauline married Convie Sammie Clowers, who survives.

Also surviving are her four children, Marilyn (Pete) Bealor of La Porte, Sammie Clowers of New Carlisle, Dale (Eufemia) Clowers and Betty (Gary) Huston both of La Porte; 10 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 34 great-great grandchildren; and special nieces, Jackie Murname, Rhonda Leffew, Patty Leffew, Karen Wood, Joy Whitney, and Vivian Lehman.

Preceding in death were her parents; three sisters, Ruby, Evelyn, and Betty; five brothers, Garrett, Clarence, George, Red, and Fletcher; and two granddaughters, Pauline Kay Bealor and Betty Annette Armstrong

Marlene Carol Neubeck, 75, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

Marlene was born on October 1, 1946 in La Porte, IN, to Mirwood and Dorothy (Chadderdon) Francis.

On July 2, 1972 in Las Vegas, NV, she married Martin A. Neubeck who preceded her in death on March 18, 2010.  Surviving Marlene are her children, Kenny (Rachelle) Watt and Tennille (Brian) McDaniels, all of La Porte; 6 grandchildren, Alicia, Kenny, Lindsey, Cameren, Hunter, and Josh; brother, Dave (LaVonne) Francis of Seabring, FL; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Martin A. Neubeck.

Marlene was a homemaker.  She enjoyed shopping and watching the History Channel.  Marlene loved Christmas, especially looking at Christmas lights.

Kenneth James Mannia, 70, of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of La Porte, Indiana, passed away at home on April 25, 2022, following a lengthy illness.

Ken was born June 6, 1951, in La Porte, Indiana to the late William and Margaret (Graczyk) Mannia. 

Ken attended La Porte High School and worked for the La Porte County Fire Department.  He was a United States Navy Veteran based out of Charleston, South Carolina, serving four years during the Vietnam War.  He moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1984 to be near his parents

.

Ken was a talented artist.  His work is seen in many businesses, advertisements and several school gymnasium floors and walls.  He painted for the love of the art and sold many of his works at local festivals.  He studied various art media and gifted his family with several of his “Masterpieces”.  He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, a competitive game of pool and cooking, while sipping on a rum and coke.

Ken is survived by his brother, William (Mindy) Mannia of Delaware City, Delaware; four sisters, Anne (Danny) Schoof of Lake Wales, Florida, Valerie Jean Richardson of La Porte, Indiana, Nancy (Robin) Christ of La Porte, Indiana and Patricia Diane Smudde of Charleston, South Carolina; as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul Michael Mannia.

Jesus Sanchez Perez, 86, of La Porte, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family. 

Jesus was born in Paraiso, Tabasco, Mexico on March 5, 1936 to Arturo and Hermila  (Sanchez) Perez. 

On January 20, 1962 in Crown Point, IN, he married Wanda Humphrey who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Diane (David Weller) Perez of Mishawaka, Valerie (James) Peterson of Fort Wayne, and Jeff (Lauressa) Perez of La Porte; 7 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great, great-granddaughter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; 1 sister; and grandson, Brandon Lee Perez.

Jesus was a grower for many years at Bernacchi Greenhouse.  He enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, and watching baseball.  Jesus was an avid Cubs fan.  He loved gardening and flowers.  Jesus was known for having the best yard!  Most importantly, Jesus loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Beverly "Jeanne" Walker, 94, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Brickyard Healthcare-La Porte Care Center.

Jeanne was born on May 26, 1928 in North Russell, NY, to Harold and Evelyn (Blanchard) Lumley.

On April 14, 1949 in Canton, NY, she married Lowell who preceded her in death.  Surviving Jeanne are her sons, Harold (Chris) Walker of Union Mills, Scott (Susan) Walker of Dexter, NY, and Geoffrey (Alison) Walker of Vienna, VA; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a younger brother, Weldon Lumley of Canton, NY; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and daughter, Beverley Martin.

Jeanne was a homemaker.  She enjoyed sewing, bowling, and baking donuts.  Jeanne was a member of Union Mills Baptist Church.
