Doris Mae "Dorcey" Martin

Doris Mae "Dorcey" Martin, 97, of Michigan City, IN, passed away on September 26, 2024.  Dorcey was born on July 2, 1927, in Pound, VA, to Noah and Nona (Adams) Hubbard.  She was a graduate of Pound High School, where she was captain of the girl's basketball team.  

For 43 years, she was married to Adam Ramey, Jr., before he went home to meet the Lord in 1991.  In 1997, Dorcey married Elis Martin.  

Dorcey is survived by sister, Carolyn Mullican of Michigan City; brother-in-law, Ed Castle; stepchildren, Angie Delong, Janice (Scott) Alm, and Karen (Mike) Cox; as well as many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; son, Jimmy Ramey; stepson, Terry Martin; sisters, Virginia (Ray) Kennedy, Irene (Ray) Taylor, and Shirley Castle; and brother, Noah R. Hubbard.  

Dorcey was a waitress at Holiday Inn for 52 years. She was a member of Harvest Time Church of God for many years.  She will be fondly remembered for having a heart of gold.  Dorcey will be dearly missed by those blessed to know her.  

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Harvest Time Church of God with Pastor Joe Shelton officiating. Burial will follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.  

A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church.

Danny Kenneth Werdine

Danny Kenneth Werdine, 69, of Michigan City, IN, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at his home.  Danny was born on May 11, 1955, in Michigan City, IN, to Kenneth and Dorothy "Joann" (Moore) Werdine.  

Surviving are his mother and niece, Kaley Werdine.  He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Cathy L. Werdine.  

Danny graduated from Purdue University in 1981 with a bachelor's degree and in 1988 with a master's degree.  He was a teacher and, most recently, a property manager for Empenum Property Management.  Danny was a member of the National Education Society and the Indiana Teachers Association.  

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City.  At a later date, a private family service will take place at St. John's United Church of Christ, Michigan City.

Carolyn Pillai

Carolyn Pillai, 82, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, September 27, 2024, at Miller's Health and Rehab in La Porte, IN.  She was born November 16, 1941, in Little Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of George Alfred Sweder and Eunice (Williams) Sweder.  

Growing up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Carolyn graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Augustana College, then pursued a Master’s degree in Microbiology from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, followed by a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Governors State University.  In June 1966, Carolyn married the love of her life, Janardanan Pillai, whom she met at the U of IL, but preceded her in death by 21 years.  She had two official weddings; one in Trivandrum, Kerala, India, and Grand Rapids, MI.  She lived most of her adult life in Flossmoor, IL where she and her husband raised their two sons.  She has been a resident of La Porte, IN for the past 7 years. Carolyn carved out a distinguished career as a clinical microbiologist at the University of Chicago Hospitals.  She later served as a counselor in Tinley Park, IL sharing her expertise and compassion with those in need.  

Carolyn was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of La Porte. She served as an Elder on Session, started the Merry Widows Club, eagerly participated in Book Club, and sang in the choir.  She loved playing cards and often brought joy and connection to her friends. Carolyn enjoyed going to the casinos, eating out with friends, and having great conversations. She loved reading and exploring new worlds through literature. Carolyn's life was also enriched by her love of nature and the arts. She found great pleasure in activities such as fishing, and spending time at a cabin. She loved being near water and had a special love for Lake Superior where she spent many of her summers during her childhood.  Carolyn was an avid gardener, delighted in tending to her plants, particularly enjoying the visits from squirrels that frequented her garden. Her artistic inclinations were expressed through painting and a keen interest in all things related to art. She loved animals, especially cats, and never met a fish she didn’t want to keep.  She cherished moments spent with her friends and family, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.  

She is survived by her two sons, Keshav (Sue) Pillai of Merrill, WI, and Krishna (Carla) Pillai of LaPorte, IN; brother, Thomas Sweder of Brighton, MI; sister, Mary (Larry) Kallio of Grand Haven, MI; nine grandchildren, Phoebe Osterhus, Aliyah Pillai, Sarita Pillai, Tanaya Pillai, Janan Pillai, Jaiden Pillai, Ravi Pillai, Orion Pillai, Vijay Pillai; and many beloved nieces and nephews. 

Along with her husband of 37 years, Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Richard Sweder, and sister-in-law Kathleen Sweder.  

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Friday, October 4 from 5 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, October at 10 am at The Presbyterian Church of La Porte 307 Kingsbury Ave. La Porte, IN 46350. Cremation to take place at a later date with subsequent placement in the columbarium of The Presbyterian Church of La Porte.

Susan Lynn Larson

Susan Lynn Larson, 76, of La Porte, Indiana passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024.  Susi was born on May 17, 1948, in Valparaiso, Indiana to Donna (Gustafson) Nichols and Carl Adrian Nichols.

On June 11, 1966, Susi married David Larson who preceded her in death on February 28, 2019. Susi is survived by daughters, Staci Reuer of La Porte and Lori (Mike McCalment) Larson of La Porte; and grandchildren, Cody Reuer, Ellen (Brendan) Jonasson, Emma (Joey) Ross, Anna Foglesong, and Greta Foglesong and special buddy, Paul Hoose.

Susi graduated from La Porte High School with the Class of 1966. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sexton of St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Prayer Chain, Willing Servants Funeral Committee, President of Circle Eight, Thrift Shop worker, Ladies Aide, and a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.  Susi taught decorative painting for the La Porte Park Department and worked at Ambrosia Banquet and Catering. Her favorite job was serving lunch to the kids at St. John’s School. She enjoyed gardening, going to Shipshewana, Las Vegas, Redamacs, and concerts with her friends.  Susi’s grandchildren were the love of her life and she looked forward to “Only Child Night” with them.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 PM on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana 46350.

A memorial service will follow the visitation at 5 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.

Marlyce Darlene Seidelman

Marlyce Darlene Seidelman, 75, of Mulberry, passed away on September 24th, 2024.  

The world was brightened when she was born on June 28th, 1949, to Edward and Myrtle "Jean" Schoonover in Rochester, MI. She married Bruce John Seidelman on October 2, 1971, and they shared a loving marriage of 47 years until his passing in 2019. She and Bruce raised their family primarily in Westville, Indiana.  

Marlyce was a kind-hearted and humble woman who spent her life caring for others. These attributes lead her to a long and fulfilling career as a CNA for over 30 years.  In her younger years, she and her husband loved traveling, vacationing, and camping with their family. She was very talented at sewing and often gifted family and friends with clothing, pajamas, and the coziest blankets she would make. Marlyce enjoyed corresponding with her many pen pals, most of which, she had been in touch with since she was a teenager. She loved animals and had many dogs in her lifetime but her cat, Itty Bitty, always held a special place in her heart. Marlyce loved to be surrounded by the beauty of plants and flowers, and she kept many in her home. She was incredibly proud of her family and loved spending as much time as she could with them by attending sporting events, family get-togethers, and playing board games with her grandkids.  

She is survived and adored by her children, Renee (Dave) Bromley, Richard (Erica) Seidelman, Wesley Seidelman, Anita (Christopher) Wright, and Marisa (John) Dungan; as well as her grandchildren, David (Alysa) Bromley, Bryce (Josh) Salrin, Lincoln Seidelman, Hudson Seidelman, Neidra Wright, Berlin Wright, Sam Seidelman, Jaylen Seidelman, Sydney Seidelman, and Lauren (Zach) Niceley; and her great-grandchildren, Memphis and Aspen Bromley. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Myrna Morrissey and Verndalene "Ashley" Freeman, as well as many nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bruce, who affectionately referred to her as "Lambsie", as well as her mother, father, and her brother, Orville. 

A time of visitation will be held from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, with a Celebration of Life Service to immediately follow at noon, all at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.  Following the service, burial will take place at Pinhook Cemetery.

Vicky Lynn Gauger

Vicky Lynn Gauger, 68, of Mill Creek, IN, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.  Vicky was born on March 17, 1956, in Wausau, WI, to Delores (Page) Wasserford.  

On September 14, 1974, in Milwaukee, WI, she married Charles, who survives. Also surviving are her children, Keith Gauger of La Porte and Jennifer (Todd) Conrad of Mill Creek; 4 grandchildren, Trevvor (Sabrina) Moore of La Porte, Nevaeh Gauger of Phoenix, AZ, Lorelei Conrad of Mill Creek, and Rowan Conrad of Mill Creek; great-granddaughter, Rose Moore of La Porte; as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents.  

Vicky was a homemaker for most of her life.  Outside of her home, she enjoyed working at Blue Chip as a blackjack dealer and at Quality Farm & Fleet as a cashier.  

She enjoyed playing cards, particularly euchre and pinnacle, at the La Porte Senior Center, scrapbooking, and quilting.  Vicky generously gave of her time. Her generosity was most evident when she assisted many children with completing their 4-H projects.  When her children were young, Vicky enjoyed volunteering in her children's classroom and at St. John's Lutheran Church.  She also enjoyed volunteering at St. John's Thrift Store, assisting with tax preparation for the Salvation Army, and volunteering at the La Porte Senior Center.  Vicky touched many lives with her kindness and generosity.  Her friends were blessed by her friendship and support.  She had a one-of-kind laugh, treasured by those who loved her.  Most importantly, Vicky dearly loved her family.   

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Sam Polito officiating.  

A time of visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Cremation will take place following the service.

Mark W Giesler

Mark W. Giesler, 68, of La Porte, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.  Mark was born on July 25, 1956, in La Porte, Indiana to the late Robert and Sophie (Patzalek) Giesler.

Mark retired from Laborers’ Local 81 and pursued a career in construction management that allowed him to travel throughout the Midwest with his wife.

He coached his children's youth sports for many years and took pride in their accomplishments. Mark had many hobbies like golfing, watching his favorite team, the Chicago Bears, or relaxing with a cocktail by his pool. He loved hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. Mark and his wife loved to travel together. One of the places they cherished most was Hawaii, where they celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows. Family meant everything to him, and he treasured the moments spent together. He recently celebrated his 50-year class reunion with the class of 1974 from La Porte High School.

On January 19, 1980, in La Porte, Mark married Kimberly A. Ott who survives. He leaves behind two daughters, Jodie (TJ) Campbell of South Bend, and Amanda (Adam) Ecker of South Bend; a son, Andy (Kelsey) Giesler of La Porte; grandchildren, Olivia, Emily, and Jaxon Signorino, Gavin Steinhaus, Gisele and Caleb Ecker, and Hunter and Hudson Giesler; his mother-in-law, Judith Ott; sisters-in-law, Linda (Dennis) Miller, Kellie (Eric) Stulc, Jodi (Kurt deceased) Ott; and several nieces and nephews.  Mark was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Giesler; and brother, Bobby Giesler.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.  A private Celebration of Life will take place.

Loretta June Holland

Loretta June Holland, June 28, 1939-September 24, 2024.

Loretta June Holland, 85, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at St. Anthony's Franciscan Health in Crown Point, IN.

She was born June 28, 1939, in Baltimore, Ohio, the daughter of Wilburn Tucker and Elsie (Wittington) Tucker, who preceded her in death. Wilburn Tucker was always proud that his family took up a whole row at church and now, with all of her 8 brothers and sisters gone, he's happy again because his pew is back to being full. June is also preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Kenneth, and grandchild, Eric Grammas.  

June, as she was known for much of her life, married Kenneth Holland on March 19, 1982, in Chesterton, Indiana, moving to La Porte in 1986. She was a wonderful homemaker who took great pride in maintaining a warm and welcoming environment in her home. She was a "safehouse" for neighborhood children, inviting them in until their parents came home from work.  June found joy in camping, traveling across the United States in her camper, which she named "Arker Barker". Her artistic spirit shone through in her many hobbies and interests, including a variety of crafts, needlepoint, adult coloring, and square dancing. While at Silver Birch, June looked forward to bingo nights and peanut auctions, as well as craft time. She embraced the spirit of the holidays, often hosting big family gatherings, and loved attending big family cookouts.  June was very fond of her grandchildren and cherished the moments spent with them.   

She is survived by her three daughters, Teonna (Stan) Janczak of Geneseo, NY, Sherri (Tiffany) Holland of South Bend, IN, Tabatha (Mark) Whitten of New Holstein, WI; son, William (Kris) Holland of Crown Point, IN; seven grandchildren, Amy Grammas, Mark (J.P.) Whitten Jr., Brandon (Jessika) Music, Margaret (Matt) Dickerson, Brooke (Jordan) Mosher, Evan Holland, Michael (Kylie) Holland; 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 2 p.m. until service time at 4 p.m., with Reverend Nate Loucks, State Street Church, officiating. A private burial will take place at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.

Ruth Ellen Mauch

Ruth Ellen Mauch, 72, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Northwest Health La Porte.

Ruth was born on September 17, 1952, in East Chicago, IN, to Albert "Al" and Verna (Hamnik) Dray.  Surviving Ruth are her daughter, Elizabeth (Dion) Bergeron of Michigan City; 3 grandsons, Orion Frank of La Porte, Donovan Bergeron of Michigan City, and Trevor Bergeron of Indianapolis; sister, Marilynn (Charles) Wagner of Peru; 2 nieces, Wendy (Brian) Arwood of Peru and Sarah Miler of Denver, CO; 4 great-nieces, Molly, Illiana, Runa, and Mina Arwood, all of Peru; 1 great-nephew, Gideon Arwood of Peru; and beloved cat, Oscar.  She was preceded in death by her parents and very special schnauzer, George.  

Ruth was a 1974 Purdue University graduate, earning her bachelor's degree in English and Elementary Education.  From 1980 - 2002, Ruth worked as a Law Clerk Director for several law firms in downtown Chicago.  Following that, she proudly worked at Indiana State Prison as a Correctional Officer and Correctional Case Manager for 8 years.  Most recently, Ruth worked as a CVS Advisor until her retirement in 2019.  Ruth was involved in community theater from the 1970s to the 1990's, especially at Purdue University Northwest, Indiana University Gary, and the Lake County theater community.  She had a particular fondness for the Golden Age of Cinema and Cole Porter.  She loved baking and seasonal cookie walks.  Ruth enjoyed karaoke, coffee, and strolling along downtown Chicago viewing the Christmas decorations.  

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.  

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.  Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mildred Alberta Schroeder

Mildred Alberta Schroeder, 90, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Franciscan Health-Michigan City.  

Mildred was born on June 23, 1934, in East Chicago, IN, to Earl and Vera (Lengyel) Gray.

On July 25, 1953, she married Thompson Faye Schroeder who preceded her in death.  Surviving are her 4 children, Tracy Schroeder of La Porte, Trinette Schroeder of Union Mills, Terrill (Jan) Schroeder of Andover, MN, Trent (Sandy) Schroeder of Union Mills; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; 1 sibling; as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.  

Mildred worked as a baker for many years.

John Phillip Seymour

John Phillip Seymour, 46, of Kingsbury, IN, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024.  John was born on April 3, 1978, in La Porte, IN, to Phillip and Patricia (Kapuscinski) Seymour.  

Surviving John are his 2 children, Evan Garay of Westville and Cheyenne Hyatte of Bardstown, KY; mother, Patricia Seymour of La Porte; brother, Adam (Sarah) Seymour of La Porte; 4 nieces, Avery, Heidi, Emma, and Hannah of La Porte; nephew, Levi Seymour; and uncles, Joseph Kapuscinski of La Porte, Mike (Tami) Seymour of Niles, MI, Doug (Cathy) Seymour of La Porte, and Wayne (Beccy) Seymour of La Porte.  

He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Margaret Kapuscinski and James (Lois) Seymour; and uncle, Steven Kapuscinski.  

John previously worked as an assembler at Riggs.  He enjoyed rebuilding and restoring bicycles, drawing, playing guitar, and collecting Hot Wheels.  John enjoyed playing rock and roll music, with more speakers being preferred!  He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed assistance. John led a troubled life.  His demons are finally laid to rest.  

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.  

A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.  

John loved animals, having many dogs in his lifetime.  Due to his love for animals, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions be directed to the Jane Bernard Animal Adoption Center, 2855 West State Road 2, La Porte, IN 46350, or the donor's choice.

Kay Louella (Smoker-Satoski) Baumgartner

Kay Louella (Smoker-Satoski) Baumgartner, 82 of La Porte, Indiana passed away Friday, September 20, 2024. Kay was born on March 4, 1942, in Hanna, Indiana to the late Woodrow and Katherine (Steele) Smoker.

Kay married James A. Satoski who preceded her in death in 1965. Following James’ death Kay married William T Baumgartner who preceded her in death on April 4, 1993.

Surviving are children, Jacquelyne Trefcer of Apopka, Florida; Matthew (Marla) Satoski of Orlando, Florida; Rhee Ann Baumgartner of Ada, Michigan; Anthony (Myra) Satoski of Plymouth, Indiana; Deborah Greenway of Melbourne Beach Florida; Julie (Richard) Mann of Kaufman, Texas; William E (Jacqueline) Baumgartner of Valparaiso, Indiana; Jeffrey (Tonya) Satoski of Warsaw, Indiana; and Laurie Satoski of Indianapolis, Indiana; 22 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren and 2 special grand dogs.

Kay was preceded in death by siblings, Ronald Smoker and Judith Beck.

Kay was a member of Beachwood Women’s Golf League, Holy Family Parish St. Joseph Church, and Friends of the Symphony. She spent countless hours volunteering at St Joseph’s Vincent de Paul Annex with some dear friends.  Kay made a positive impact on many lives. She was always thinking of others and offering solutions for everything. She loved unconditionally and was there to help anyone that came into her life. She was very active which kept her young and mobile.  She loved her yard and gardens to be perfectly manicured with an abundance of flowering peonies each year.  One of her favorite places to spend time was at the family cottage on Fish Lake, wanting to share it with family and friends.  She’s had a love of golf for years, her golfing family was a very important part of her life and together they created many great memories and friendships that will be cherished for years to come.

She loved Jesus and was a great example of his love and compassion which showed by the way she loved the people around her. Volumes could be written about the love and generosity that was in her heart and actions. There will be an enormous space in our hearts.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana, where a Parish Rosary will be recited at 7 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Holy Family Parish, St. Joseph Church, 109 C. Street, La Porte, Indiana.  Family and friends may gather at 10 AM on Friday in the Funeral Home before the Mass.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in La Porte.

David Allen Kramer

David Allen Kramer, 62, of La Porte, Indiana passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, September 21, 2024.  David was born in La Porte on August 27, 1962, to the late Allen and Dorothy (Schoof) Kramer. David resided in La Porte his entire life.

When not enjoying a can of Pepsi while riding his motorized scooter around the family property, David could be found watching reruns of “I Love Lucy” or socializing with relatives over the phone, particularly his favorite Aunt Jan. He also enjoyed watching his nephews’ baseball games, the county fair, and family get-togethers. David’s courage and resilience despite the many challenges he faced throughout his life will forever inspire all who knew and loved him. His family and friends will greatly miss his infectious smile, laughter, and personality.

Surviving is his sister, Theresa (John) Mohlke; nephews, Greg (Kayleen) Mohlke and Josh (Emily) Mohlke; aunts, Loretta Kramer, Karen Wojasinski, Marie Kramer, Jancie Hadella, and Phyllis Schoof; great-nephews, and great-nieces, Henry, Lucy, Madison, and Jack Mohlke; and many beloved cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Dorothy.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Brickyard Terrace and its residents and many people who cared for and visited David during the final years of his life: Aunt Jan, Aunt Loretta, Bert, Jeri, Lisa, and Traditions Hospice nurse Ashley.

George Edward Deutscher

George Edward Deutscher, 72, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, passed away on September 19, 2024, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, IN.

George was born on July 5, 1952, in La Porte, IN, to Paul and Lucille (Reuille) Deutscher.  

On July 6, 1974, in La Porte, IN, he married Donna Metts who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Matthew (Alicia) Deutscher of Rolling Prairie, Christopher (Angela) Deutscher of North Liberty, and Julie (Brian) Blosser of Rolling Prairie; grandchildren, Rachel (Ben Johnson) Deutscher, Clayton (Alyssa Bennitt) Deutscher, Calina, Camryn, Emma, and Chloe Deutscher, Addasyn and Elliana Blosser; brother, Larry (Vickie) Deutscher of Fort Meyers, FL; sisters, Patricia Williams of La Porte and Loretta (James) Oliver of New Carlisle; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents.

George was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of North Liberty Christian Church.  George was a 50-year 4-H leader and served as Swine Committee Superintendent for many years. He was a 50-year Becks Hybrid's Seed dealer.  George enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his wife.  He loved to fish, especially on his deep-sea trips.  Most of all, he loved spending time with family, particularly his grandchildren.  

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. (EST) on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at North Liberty Christian Church.  Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.  A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 8 p.m. (EST) on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 and from 10 a.m. (EST) until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church.

Max A Wilson

Max A. Wilson, 82, of Indianapolis, formerly of Galveston and LaPorte, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Story Cottage Memory Care home in Indianapolis.  He was born March 9, 1942, in Galveston to Harley B. and Lucille (Thompson) Wilson.  He married Pamela Ann Shawver on June 14, 1964, in Walton, Indiana and she survives.

Max served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.  Over decades he served with Farm Credit Services, Production Credit Association, Federal Intermediate Credit Bank, PCA (again), and finally LaPorte Bank & Trust which became Norwest and then Wells Fargo. He retired from Wells Fargo Bank in 2004 as vice president specializing in commercial lending.  For 16 years of retirement, Max and Pam enjoyed traveling around the U.S. in their RV and wintered in Arizona, Texas, and Florida to avoid the LaPorte snow. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2024.

For the 43 years that he enjoyed living on the KOP Circle, Max actively participated in a weekly small group Bible study that began at First Baptist Church of LaPorte and continued through many other churches.  Max was a huge supporter of his church and counseled many family and friends with financial matters. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and enjoyed playing golf, geocaching, and pickleball. 

Surviving family includes his wife Pamela of Indianapolis; his children, Stacy and husband Bob Burger of Indianapolis; Scott Alexx Wilson of New Carlisle, Indiana and Shayla and husband Gary Evans of LaPorte, Indiana.  Surviving grandchildren include Elizabeth (Josh) Morris, Ruth (Zach) Elliott, Sarah (Kyle) Schmidt, Mariah (Isaac) Hertzler, Hannah (Stefon) Elliott, Benjamin, Verla, and John Burger, Matthew Froehike, Bailey (Austin) Travis-Bentz, Alexis Arnett and William Arnett.  Max is also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Angie, Evangeline, Steven, Charlotte, Theodore, and one more boy in September.  Two sisters also survive, Carol Swank and Mary Lou White. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Tom and Charles Wilson, sister, Linda Rouch, and an infant brother David Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at United in Faith Church, 515 S. Maple Street in Galveston with Pastor Phil Jackson of Christ the King church officiating.  Burial will follow services in Galveston Cemetery.  A public visitation will be held before services from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to United in Faith Church of Galveston.

Patricia Edna Blumer

Patricia Edna Blumer, August 14, 1933-September 17, 2024.

Patricia E. Blumer, 91, of Westville, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Northwest Health-La Porte.  She was born August 14, 1933, in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Emmeron John Bittner, who served in the United States Army during WWI, and Josephine (Geise) Bittner.  

Patricia grew up in Porter County and attended Chesterton High School, where she graduated in 1951. On July 4, 1952, Patricia married her high school sweetheart, Jim Blumer, in Topeka, Kansas, while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force. Patricia raised her children in Porter County, where she was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chesterton, Indiana. She found joy and purpose in her faith, actively participating in church activities, and singing with the choir at services and events throughout Porter County. As a self-proclaimed domestic engineer, Pat kept an immaculately clean house and was actively involved in her 5 sons' lives, serving as a den mother in Boy Scouts and being the dedicated taxi driver, driving them to various sporting events.  Though often laughingly recognized as "the absolute worst cook", with her husband stepping in to take charge in the kitchen, and her sons taking home economics class in school, she embraced her role as a nurturing figure within her family.  Patricia’s interests extended beyond her church involvement. She enjoyed spending time with family, partaking in activities such as bowling, water skiing, and visiting the beach. In 1996, Patricia moved to La Porte, IN, and continued to stay connected with her family and friends, always trying to keep in touch with loved ones. Her legacy of love, prayer, and commitment to family will be remembered fondly by all who were fortunate enough to know her. 

Pat is survived by her sons, known as the "JoJo Brothers", Daniel (Windy) Blumer of Westville, IN, Greg Blumer of Chesterton, IN, James Blumer of Kendallville, IN, John (Deb) Blumer of Porter, IN;  brother, Bernie (Ginger) Bittner of Orland Park, IL; two sisters, Sister Bernita Marie Bittner, a nun, of Milwaukee, WI, Kathleen Kolb of NM; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 2 buns in the oven, and several nieces and nephews.  

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband and the father of her children, Jim; sons baby Blumer and USAF Howard (Ana) Blumer; brothers, Army Sgt. Edwin Bittner and USAF Kenneth Bittner; sisters, Ethyl Nelson, Irene Beckman, and MaryJo Christman.

Reba Dean Typpi

Reba Dean Typpi, 87, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on September 19, 2024.

Reba was born on March 22, 1937, in Trumann, AR, to Woodroe Stotts and Mary Lavelle (Garner) Thomas.

On September 2, 1983, in Michigan City, IN, she married Michael H. Typpi who survives. Also surviving are her son, Michael T. (Lisa) Typpi of La Porte; stepsons, Gary (Kay) England and Danny (Sharon) England; grandchildren, Scott (Brittany) Typpi, Samantha (Craig) Stidham, and Seth Typpi; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Melvin (Debbie) Stotts; sister-in-law, Sue England; and nieces, Misty (Edwin) Franklin and Barbie Jo (Jim) Dreher.  She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carla Eliott.

Reba worked as a waitress, a seamstress, and for Sullair before she retired.  She enjoyed cooking and sewing.  

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Noon on Monday, September 23, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.  Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Michigan City.  A time of visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Barbara Ann Meeks

Barbara Ann Meeks, 81, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on September 18, 2024, at Millers Merry Manor in New Carlisle. Barbara was born on April 5, 1943, in Morgantown, WV, to Elden and May (Savage) Coburn.

Barbara married Harry Wilson Meeks, Sr. who preceded her in death.  Surviving are her children, Belinda Metheny, Harry Meeks, Jr., Cindy (Jeff) Coffman, Jeff Meeks, and Nathan (Anna) Meeks, all of La Porte; son-in-law, Carney Butler of La Porte; brother, Chuck Coburn; sister, Jean Flinchum; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Christopher and Michael Meeks; daughter, Sandy Butler; son-in-law, Raymond Metheny, Jr.; and brothers, Robert, Rick, and Ronald Coburn.  Barbara enjoyed exercising including walking and bike riding.  She especially loved her grandkids.

John M Bosak, Sr.

John M Bosak Sr., July 4, 1943 - September 13, 2024.  

John M. Bosak Sr., a dedicated family man and skilled mechanic, passed away peacefully at his home on September 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 4, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, and spent his life touching the hearts of those around him with his unwavering support and gentle spirit.  

John was affectionately known as "MacGyver" for his remarkable ability to fix anything. His friends and family admired his talents as a builder and his passion for refinishing furniture.  John found joy in life's simple pleasures, including fishing and golfing. These hobbies were often shared moments with his family, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime. A highlight of his recent years involved the special project he undertook with his son, Tom, restoring Tom's beloved 1968 Roadrunner, a testament to their strong bond and shared love for mechanics.  In addition to his many skills and interests, John proudly served in the Illinois National Guard, demonstrating his commitment to his country. Throughout his life, he was a source of unwavering support for his family, always there to lend a helping hand or offer comforting words during challenging times.  

John is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his son, Tom (Tara Bernette) Bosak Jr.; his daughter, Laurie (Doug Pierro) Bosak; and his brother, Jerry Bosak. He was a cherished grandfather to Abigal (Ryan) Heaps and Justin Bosak and a proud great-grandfather to Wade Heaps and Emma Heaps, with another great-grandchild on the way. 

He rejoins his parents, John and Angeline Bosak, and his sister, Jeannie Bosak, in eternal rest. John M. Bosak Sr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He left behind a legacy of love, dedication, and skill that will be cherished in the hearts of his family forever. 

On September 25, 1965, in Midlothian, IL, married Kathy Bosak who survives celebrating almost 60 years together.

Linda L Ferguson

July 23, 1946-September 15, 2024.  Linda Ferguson, 78, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024, at La Porte Hospital, with her husband and son at her side.  She was born July 23, 1946, in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Albert and Vera Kraus.  On June 10, 1967, in La Porte, Indiana, Linda married the love of her life, James "Jim"  Ferguson, who survives.  

A lifelong resident of the area, Linda was a homemaker and devout member of the Pentecostal Church of God in Hammond, Indiana, where she and her husband, Jim, attended every Sunday. In her younger days, Linda was an avid creator of crafts, loved reading, and took yearly trips with Jim to Gatlinburg.  More recently, she enjoyed doing word search puzzles, reading, socializing on Facebook, and eating Jim's country-style milk gravy, which he made especially for her. Her greatest passion, after God, was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who she loved with all her heart. Linda was adored by many people and will be missed by all who met her.  

Along with her husband of 57 years, she is survived by her son, Det. James T (Nicole) Ferguson of La Porte, IN; , IN; five grandchildren, Robert, Hunter, Reese, Cade, and Dane; two great-grandchildren, Layla and Inara; close friend, Leslie Cash of La Porte; her Shih-poo, Layla, and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jesse and Larry, and sisters, Marilee and Alvera.

Karen Sue Bortz

Mrs. Karen Sue Bortz, 81, of 3226 N. Briar Leaf Ct., LaPorte, died Monday, September 16, 2024, at 2:51 a.m. at Northwest Health Hospital in LaPorte, following an extended illness.

She was born July 15, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana to William Johnson and Marilyn (Young) Johnson and had lived in LaPorte since 1955.

Mrs. Bortz graduated from Indiana University in 1966 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and obtained her Master's Degree in Education, also from Indiana University. She was the co-founder of Step Ahead Nursery School. She was also the co-founder of Challenge Courses School. Mrs. Bortz was then a teacher at the Laporte Community School Corporation for over 25 years, working predominantly at Kesling Middle School, teaching 7th-grade English. She ended her teaching career at Krueger Middle School in Michigan City. Mrs. Bortz also enjoyed being the co-founder of B&B Cognitive Writing, Inc. where she was an author and publisher of curriculum and disciplinary programs used by many school districts.

Mrs. Bortz was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing tennis and golf in various city leagues during her younger years. She was a loyal supporter of her Indiana Hoosiers. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family and spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Her family was the center of her wonderful life.

On February 18, 1967, in LaPorte, she married Robert H. Bortz, who survives.

Also surviving are her daughter, Heather (Craig) Menne of LaPorte, and two sons, John Bortz of LaPorte and Christopher (Jennifer) Bortz of Caseyville, Illinois. Mrs. Bortz is also survived by eight grandchildren, Molly Menne, Anna Menne, Emma Menne, Jack Bortz, Max Bortz, Ryland Bortz, Cameron Tucker, and Braden Tucker, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Robert H. Bortz, Jr., one sister, Judith Ryden, one brother, William Theodore Johnson, and one grandson, Drew Michael Bortz.

There will be a private family funeral service at Frank L. Charles Anton Wellinski

Charles Anton Wellinski, 53, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away at Northwest Health La Porte on Saturday, September 14, 2024.  Charles was born on February 20, 1971, in South Bend, IN, to Richard and Mary Sue (Payne) Wellinski.

Surviving are his siblings, Suzanne (Eddie) Dowdy of La Porte, John (Stefanie) Wellinski of La Porte, James (Billie Jo) Wellinski of Florence, AL, and Lisa Linn of La Porte; and David (Ann) Engelbrecht of IA; his fiance', Denise Grossbauer of LaPeer, MI; as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gayle Turner; brother, Ed Turner; and great-niece, Makayla Ethridge.

Charles was a truck driver for years. He enjoyed music especially playing the piano and guitar.  Charles also liked watching the Cubs, Bears, and Notre Dame.  Most of all, he loved his family.

Lucinda King

Lucinda King, August 29, 1951-September 10, 2024.

Lucinda King, born on August 29, 1951, in La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2024, at her son’s home, surrounded by her beloved family. She was a cherished member of the La Porte community and a devoted family woman whose life was marked by hard work and heartfelt connections.  Throughout her career, Lucinda was known for her strong work ethic, beginning in manufacturing at American Rubber of La Porte, where she dedicated many years of her life, displaying her tenacity and commitment. In her later years, she took on the role of a paper delivery person for the Herald-Argus, continuing her legacy of serving others in her community.  Beyond her professional pursuits, Lucinda was a person of many passions and interests. Together with her husband, Bill, she enjoyed square dancing, a pastime they cherished and participated in at numerous events. Lucinda also had a delightful collection of chicken and rooster figurines, reflecting her whimsical spirit and her appreciation for the charm found in unique treasures.  As a prominent member of the Purdue Homemakers Extension, Lucinda was deeply involved in her community. Her dedication to this organization saw her rise to the position of President, where she represented and inspired others, participating in conventions and fostering connections among her peers. 

Lucinda leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her sister, Sherry Riehle; her sons, Bryan Adams, William H. King Jr., and Richard (Rick) Misty Lovelace King; grandchildren Blaise, Jordan Fetters, Nicholas, Stephanie, Cheyanne, William H. King III, and Kaleb King; Adelyn, Raelyn, Ariella, and Peyton Kubasyk. She is also survived by her nephew Michael (Amy) Riehle; grandchildren Peyton Riehle, Zoe, and Austin (Kristi); and niece Shelby Riehle, along with other family members including great-grandchildren Lorraine, Kinleigh, Audrey, Romero, and Ryders.  Lucinda was preceded in death by her husband, William King Sr., her parents Raymond and Marquerite Wood, daughter Mary Crayton; and her granddaughter Nadege Lovelace.

Surviving are his fiance', Patricia Larson of La Porte; stepdaughter, Maggie Larson of Ogden Dunes; stepson, Max Larson of Michigan City; grandson, Jason Adkins of La Porte; sister, Valerie Whitney of Niles, MI; stepmother, Sharon Whitney of Leesville, SC; nieces and nephews; lab, TJ; and cat, Ozzie.  He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Whitney and labs, Abby and Dixie.  

Pat worked as an Optician for 25 years.  He also worked at Meyers 4x4 with his friends.  Pat then worked in Post-Cast at Howmet Aerospace since 2016.  He enjoyed Jeeps, rock crawling, motorcycling, fishing, gardening, and flying a private plane.  Pat loved listening to Ozzy's Boneyard on Sirius.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Jeff Zigler officiating.  Burial will take place at Salem Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of service on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the funeral home.

Estella J. Rosenbaum, 89 of Wanatah, Indiana passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024.  Estella was born on October 30, 1934, in Hanna, Indiana to Claude and Grace (Comerford) Lute. She was a homemaker and farmer’s wife.

On January 7, 1956, Estella married Don Rosenbaum who survives with their children, David (Kathryn) Rosenbaum of Plymouth, Indiana, Kevin (Karen Deceased) Rosenbaum of Valparaiso, Indiana, Peggy (Mark) Busse of Hanna, Indiana, Louis Rosenbaum of Wanatah, Indiana, & Mary (Robert) Sullivan of Kalamazoo, Michigan; grandchildren, Ryan (Brooke) Busse, Kristin (Brian) Nendza, Neal (Kylie) Busse, Jennifer (Jim) Flecker, Tim Rosenbaum, Kyle Rosenbaum, Nathan Sullivan, Samuel Sullivan, & Brayden Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Haylee, Bryce, Khloe, Brody, Audrey, & Lauren; and sisters-in-law, Connie Lute and Janice (Lute) Semrau.

Jennifer Lynn Clingenpeel

Jennifer Lynn Clingenpeel, a beacon of kindness and unwavering faith, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 13, 2024, after a courageous years-long battle with cancer. Born on July 20, 1975, in La Porte, Indiana, Jennifer's life was a testament to her selfless nature and passion for serving others.

Jennifer's early years were spent in the nurturing care of her parents, Gordon and Linda (Rohlfing) Grott of La Porte. She grew up alongside her devoted sister, Renee Collier of La Porte, and her supportive brother, Edward (Corinne) Grott of La Porte. Her family foundation instilled in her the values of love, compassion, and the importance of community, which she carried with her throughout her life.

A proud graduate of La Porte High School, Jennifer's love for learning led her to pursue higher education at Purdue University, where she earned her degree in Pharmacy in 1998. It was also the year she united in marriage with her soulmate, Gene Clingenpeel, on June 27, forming a partnership that was filled with mutual respect, laughter, and unwavering support.

Jennifer's professional journey as a pharmacist with Walgreens in Plymouth, Indiana, allowed her to extend her innate kindness to those in her care. Her gentle demeanor and warm smile became a comforting presence to the many who sought her guidance and assistance.  Jennifer's life was one of active service. She was an integral part of the Starke County 4-H, where her involvement with the 4-H Council showcased her commitment to nurturing the potential in young people. Jennifer's love for her Catholic faith was evident in all she did, living out her beliefs through her actions and her unwavering commitment to her community.

Her home was a sanctuary of love and warmth, where she and Gene raised their two sons, Paul and Theodore Clingenpeel. Jennifer was not just a loving mom; she was a guiding light, instilling in her boys the values of faith, kindness, and the joy of living a life in service to others.  Among her many passions, Jennifer found solace and joy in fiber arts. She cherished the process of spinning and dyeing wool to create her own yarn, a reflection of her patience and attention to detail. Her love for animals shone through this craft, as well as in the way she cared for all living creatures.

Jennifer's legacy is one of a faith-filled life, marked by her selfless acts of kindness. Those who knew her were touched by her gentle spirit and her unwavering dedication to her family, her faith, and her community.  As we say goodbye to Jennifer, we celebrate her life and the countless ways in which she made our world a better place. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her husband, Gene, her sons, Paul and Theodore, her parents, Gordon and Linda, her sister, Renee, her brother, Edward, and the many lives she touched with her generosity and love.

He was born July 28, 1934, in South Bend, IN, to the late Louis E. and Laura (Jamrosey) Weber, Sr. On April 14, 1956, in South Bend, IN, he married Janet Nowicki who preceded him on May 7, 2000.  Surviving is his daughter, LuAnn (Debra Wright) Weber of Bristol, IN.
Louis retired as a State Trooper with the Indiana State Police and in 2024 after 35 years as the host of  The Fun in Michiana Show.  He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Michigan City, IN, St. Hedwig Catholic Church, South Bend, IN, and the Michigan City Exchange Club. Uncle Lou enjoyed fishing, his family, friends, and people. Giving back to his community was very important to him.

Jose was a devout catholic, who was a member of the Holy Family Parish, attending St. Joseph Catholic Church in La Porte and San Jose Obrero in El Colomo, Colima.  Jose had a vibrant approach to life. He found pleasure in listening to mariachi music, capturing moments through photography, and enjoyed shopping. With a love for cooking and a particular fondness for honey, he often hosted gatherings filled with warmth and laughter, preparing his lomo relleno, chilaquiles, tostadas, and Pipian. His sociable spirit and ability to connect with others enriched the lives of many, leaving behind cherished memories of joyous celebrations. He will be missed by all who knew him.  

He is survived by his four sisters, Maria Velazco Nava, Rosalina Velazco Nava, Carmela Velazco Nava, Alicia Velazco Nava; five brothers, Felipe Velazco Nava, Raul Velazco Nava, Miguel Velazco Nava, Guadalupe Velazco Nava, Jesus Velazco Nava, and many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.  Jose was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Leon Velazco Nava and Gustavo Velazco Nava. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN, where the family will receive friends for visitation, Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Family has requested that everyone to wear white, and are welcome to bring food day of service. Honorable Magistrate Walter Jonathan Forker, 72, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Settlers Place. 

Walter was born on August 18, 1952, in Asbury Park, NJ, to Walter and Janet (Luckenbaugh) Forker.  On August 21, 2016, in Las Vegas, NV, he married Darlene (Dickey) Pavey who survives. Also surviving are his 2 children, Nick Forker of Niles, MI and C.J. (Shelley) Forker of Sarasota, FL; 2 grandchildren, Liam Jonathan and Svea Lynn Forker of Sarasota, FL; step-daughter, Madison Pavey of Ashville, NC; 4 brothers, Mark (Chris) Forker of Valparaiso, Dr. Thomas (Eileen) Forker of  Williamsburg, PA, Joel Forker of Knoxville, TN, and Neil (Ana) Forker of Payson, AZ; 3 sisters-in-law, Debbie (Adrian) Mazar of IL, Donna (David) Homann of La Porte, and Deidre Notto of VA; brother-in-law, Ron Caddo of La Porte; as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Daun Caddo; and step-daughter, Tracy Richardson. 

After 42 years, Walter retired from serving the community as a Magistrate.  He proudly served 30 of those years as an Attorney.  Walter enjoyed traveling and corvettes.  He will be fondly remembered as a Grill Master.  Most importantly, Walter loved spending time with family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Dennis Meyer officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Surviving are a daughter, Lynn (Jay) Criggley of La Porte, IN; a son, Brian (Brooke) Gumns of Russellville, AR; five grandchildren, Eric (Tessa) Gumns, Daniel (Randi) Gumns, Cassie Gumns, Stephanie (Caleb) Stoll and Anthony Gumns; four sisters, Peggy (Joe) Schultz of Vail, AZ, Nancy (Joe) Groth of Sebring, FL, Michelle (Doug) Muenzer of Seguin, TX and Toni (Bob) Probst of Vail, AZ; brother, Dennis (Judy) Switzer of Michigan City, IN; special cousin, Gail Killingsworth; several nieces,

Susan was a cosmetologist and retired from Sprague Devices. She graduated from Elston High School in 1967 and enjoyed crafting, camping, and spending time with her family. She also volunteered for hospice making prayer blankets. Susan was a cancer survivor and a mighty warrior.

Terry Wayne Snyder, 80 passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024, in Sebring, Florida.

He was born on December 12, 1943, in Sullivan, Indiana, the son of the late George and Mary (Sullivan) Snyder.

He was a loving husband to Geraldine (Hubner) Synder and a caring father to Dawn Chlebowski of LaPorte, Indiana, Laura Stoewer of LaPorte, Indiana, and Pamela Dickey of Delray Beach, Florida. He was also a grandfather to four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Shannon Snyder.

Terry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked for over 30 years for Teledyne Casting in LaPorte, Indiana, and retired from GenRock in Sebring, Florida.

It brought joy to Terry going on cruises with his wife, Geri, with whom he shared a bond of deep love and devotion.

 

Geraldine (Geri) Snyder, 76 of Sebring, Florida, formerly of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024.  

She was born on March 25, 1948, in La Porte to the late Harriette (Schultz) and Alfred Hubner.

Geri graduated from Rolling Prairie High School in the class of 1966. She was an Insurance agent starting her career with the former Campbell Insurance in LaPorte and retired from Heacock Insurance Group in Sebring, Florida after a career of over 30 years.  In 1989, she married the love of her life Terry Snyder who preceded her in death on April 8, 2024.  Surviving are daughters, Laura Stoewer of La Porte, Pamela Dickey of Delray Beach, Florida, and Dawn Chlebowski of La Porte; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lorriane Schoff, Diane Hubner, Robert (Hubner) Helfer, and Daughter, Shannon Snyder.

Visitation for Geri and Terry will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Frank L. Lois Hazel Hearn, 90, of La Porte, IN, passed away at Brickyard Health-La Porte Care Center on Saturday, September 7, 2024. 

Lois was born on December 18, 1933, in Martin Co., IN, to Willie and Hazel (Emmons) Lagenour.  On June 15, 1971, she married Roger who preceded her in death on May 4, 2021. Surviving Lois are her 5 children, Sherie (Tom) Gilbert of Springville, Michelle (Todd) Welton of Union Mills, Norman (Beth) Self of Chesterton, Billy Self of La Porte, and Angie (Mike Kingery) Rippe of Porter; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Kenneth (Donna) Lagenour and Jerry (Lynn) Lagenour; 5 sisters, Betty Shipton, Evelyn Duncan, Norma Wilton, Linda (Butch) Butterfield, and Sue (Dave) Kniel; as well as many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters, Anita Webb and Athea Self; sons, Anthony and Alan Self; granddaughter, Mindy Self; grandson, Keith Gilbert; and brother, Lloyd Lagenour. 

Lois worked many years as a safety repair technician at Bethlehem Steel, being hired as one of their first female employees. She was a member of Harvest Time Church of God.  After she retired from the mill, Lois enjoyed traveling with her husband, Roger.  Most importantly, she very much enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.  

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A private family memorial service will take place.  At a later date, a private family burial will take place at Chesterton Cemetery.

Michael was born on March 19, 1953, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Elwood and Edna (Krumkowski) Volk. Surviving are his two brothers, David Matthew Volk and Elwood (Diana) Volk Jr. both of Michigan City, Indiana; one sister, Kathleen Volk of Michigan City, Indiana; four nephews, Nicholas Volk, Brian Volk, Mark Volk, and Jason Volk; and niece, Lori (Volk) Lykins.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
Michael retired after 51 years as a sales associate at CVS Pharmacy.  He was close with his brother, David, spending a lot of time together.  Michael liked to work with his hands building things. He loved to fish and was kind to animals, owning a few dogs over the years.  He was a member of the Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, in Michigan City.  Before the pandemic, he ushered there at the church.

Bixler who survives in Michigan City, Indiana along with a daughter, Kenlynn (Matt) Swenson of Michigan City, Indiana; son, Michael (Jean) Bixler of Battle Creek, Michigan; two grandchildren, Maggie Bixler, Greggory Bixler; and two great-grandchildren, Spencer and Breanna Campbell; two sisters, Marsha
Pawloski of La Porte, Indiana, Rebecca (Rick) Doperalski of La Porte, Indiana; brother, Craig Brinckman of Michigan City, Indiana; She was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Brinckman Wilson. 
Earlier in her working career, Nancy was secretary for Edgewood Elementary School, Michigan City, Indiana.  She was known as "Busia" to all her family and friends.  She enjoyed doing handy work around her home, camping with family and friends, and sewing, but her greatest love was always being available to aid the needs of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Michael J Taggart

Obituary of Michael J. Taggart, June 18, 1945-September 3, 2024.

Michael J. Taggart, age 79, of La Porte, IN passed away September 3, 2024, at Northwest Health,
La Porte. Michael was born June 18, l945, in Evansville, IN to Earl J. Taggart and Bonnie (Pitman) Taggart. Mike is survived by his brother, Bill (Marybeth) Taggart of Dayton, OH, a sister Leslie Jaramillo (Leo) of Warrenville, IL and his nephew James Southe of Warrenville, IL.; and his cat Buddy. Mike was preceded in death by his parents. 

Mike served in the United States Navy from 1963-1969, stationed on the USS Enterprise from 1965-1966 off the coast of Vietnam. He graduated from Purdue University and earned his MBA from the University of Phoenix.  He had a successful career as a Manufacturing Engineer in the Michiana area.  Mike owned M. J. Taggart’s Arms & Ammunition in La Porte.  Mike was a Past Master of Excelsior Lodge #41 F & A M, a member of La Porte York Rite bodies, South Bend Scottish Rite, and Orak Shrine in Michigan City. He was also a past Patron of La Porte Chapter #280 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a life member of the New Buffalo Gun Club, the American Legion Post #37, Michigan City, a Benefactor Life Member of the National Rifle Association, and a life member of the GOA.  

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN 46350.  A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, September 9 from 4 until 7:30 PM. Military Honors will be presented at 7 PM followed by a Masonic Service at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place.

Helenann Tressmer

Helenann Tressmer, 82 of Hamlet, Indiana, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024.

She was born on September 14, 1941, in La Porte, Indiana, to Otto and Bernadette (Beckerich) Hemphill.

Helenann was a Nurse Manager with the former La Porte Hospital until her retirement in 2004. She graduated from Holy Cross School of Nursing in South  Bend as a Registered Nurse. She was a Past President of the La Porte Retires organization and past President of the Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame which she helped found and was an inductee. She was an avid bowler having participated in many state and national tournaments. Helenann and her husband loved to travel, having visited all 50 states and several European countries.

On April 16, 1966, Helenann married Norman Tressmer who survives with her sister, Kathleen (Allan) Lind of Anderson, Indiana; a brother, Patrick (Dorothy) Hemphill of La Porte; and seven nieces and nephews.  Helenann was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Michelle Tressmer; and a brother, Michael O. Hemphill.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana where a Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:45 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Holy Family Parish, St. Joseph Church, 109 C. Street, La Porte, Indiana. Family and friends may gather at 10 AM Wednesday in the funeral home before the Mass.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in La Porte.

Cherill A. Spaeth

Cherill A. Spaeth, January 31, 1938-September 1, 2024.

Cherill A. Spaeth, 86, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024, at her home in Rolling Prairie, IN., surrounded by her loved ones.  She was born January 31, 1938, in New Carlisle, Indiana, the daughter of Benjamin Houseknecht and Violet (Stoner) Houseknecht.  

A lifelong resident of the area, Cherill graduated from Rolling Prairie High School and got her nursing degree at St. Mary Mercy School of Nursing. Her career began as a surgical nurse at St. Anthony's in Michigan City, followed by working for Dr John Valantiejus, whose family grew to be her second family, and finally as a school nurse for LeMans Academy in Rolling Prairie. Cherill attended Rolling Prairie Christian Church and was a member of the Eastern Star, Rolling Prairie. As a child, one of Cherill's greatest joys was delivering milk with her grandfather, who owned Houseknecht Dairy. As an adult, she loved the outdoors, enjoyed swimming in her pool, tending to her beautiful flower garden, and watching the many birds who flocked to her feeders. Cherill was very involved with athletics and 4-H with her children and grandchild. She adored her many dogs and cats and admired her daughter's horses. Cherill was known as a kind and gracious person who did so much for her family and friends and spent her life serving others. 

On October 3, 1959, in Rolling Prairie, IN, Cherill married her true love, Donald Spaeth, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Gina Spaeth, daughter, Lee Ann Spaeth; and brother, Charles "Fred' Houseknecht. 

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Spaeth of Mill Creek, IN; beloved grandchild, Alex (Brianna Williams) Spaeth-Jones of Rolling Prairie, IN; two sisters, Shirlene Neukam of La Porte, IN, Nancy Jorgenson of Rolling Prairie, IN; sister-in-law, Diane Houseknecht of Rolling Prairie, IN; brother, Jon (Gale) Houseknecht of Rolling Prairie, IN and various nieces and nephews. 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN, where the family will receive friends for a viewing on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with Chaplain Hector Trevino, Dunes Hospice, officiating.  Cremation will take place.

Joel Andres-Rincon

Joel Andres-Rincon, 22, of La Porte, IN, passed away on August 31, 2024.

Joel was born on September 7, 2001, in Pomona, CA, to Jesus Andres Alejo and Rocio Tejeda Rincon.  

Surviving Joel are his parents and 5 siblings, Jesus Andres, Jr. of La Porte, Rocio E. Beauchamp of Seattle, WA, Jonathan Andres of La Porte, Alexander Andres of La Porte, and Alan Andres of La Porte.

Joel proudly served as an artillery specialist on active duty in the United States Army National Guard.  He enjoyed drawing, camping with his friends, playing video games, and creating electronic music.  Most importantly, Joel enjoyed spending time with his family. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, La Porte. 

A time of visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.  Cremation will follow.

Oren Wade Meyers

Oren Wade Meyers, 88, of La Porte, IN, passed away on September 1, 2024, at his home, with family by his side. 

Oren was born on September 8, 1935, in Buchanan, MI, to George William Meyers, Sr. and Esther Margaret (Marsh) Meyers. 

On June 5, 1955, in Rolling Prairie, IN, he married Arlene Kirkham Meyers who preceded him in death. Surviving Oren are his 4 children, Barb Hart of New Carlisle, Leon (Lynne) Meyers of North Liberty, Linda (Chad) Lindsey of La Porte, and Jim (Mary) Meyers of Union Mills; 9 grandchildren, Robert (Nicci) Hart of South Bend, Candice (Zeek) Dickinson of La Porte, Josh (Jamie) Meyers of La Porte, Eric (Jill) Pointon of La Porte, Tyler Meyers of North Liberty, T.J. Meyers of Winamac, Ali Meyers of South Bend, Bekah (Chris) Tucker of LaCrosse, and Kyle (Mariah) Lindsey of La Porte; 23 great-grandchildren; 5 great, great-grandchildren; 5 siblings, Ward (Arlene) Meyers of Brazil, IN, Shirley (Roger) Hamilton of Walkerton, Wade (Carrie) Meyers of La Porte, Deloris (Jeff) Rhodes of Elkhart, and Herman (Janine) Meyers of La Porte; sisters-in-law, Joan Meyers of AZ and Renee Meyers of New Carlisle; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; 4 brothers, Robert, Kenneth, George Jr., and Sidney Meyers; son-in-law, Guy Hart; and grandson, Chris Hart. 

Oren was a retired farmer and mechanic, who spent his working career at Gust's Elevator in Westville, Eastside Supply, and the IN Toll Road.  He was a member of Farm Bureau, Inc. and Rolling Prairie First Christian Church.  Oren enjoyed farming and 4-H county fairs, particularly when his family showed livestock at the La Porte Co. 4-H Fair.  Most of all, Oren enjoyed spending time with his loving family. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at noon on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Rev. Dr. Daniel Lute officiating. Burial will follow at Rolling Prairie Cemetery. 

A time of visitation will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Ann Marie Robinson

Ann Marie Robinson, April 2, 1969-September 1, 2024. 

Mrs. Ann Marie (Brummett) Robinson, 55, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on, Sunday, September 1, 2024, after a challenging 3-year battle with metastatic adenocarcinoma.  Ann was born April 2, 1969, in Michigan City, Indiana, the daughter of Cisco and Brenda G. (Vincent) Brummett. 

On October 31, 2007, in a tiny mountain chapel, she finally married her childhood sweetheart and soulmate, Jeff Robinson, who was the love of her life. She loved Jeff so much that she married him twice, renewing their vows on October 31, 2017, in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. Jeff, who was also her caregiver, survives.  Also surviving are Ann's beloved sons, Erich Alt and Ethan (Kalyani Hawaldar) Alt; father, Cisco Brummett; sister, Jennifer Gouge; niece, Paige Haddon; nephew, Parker Gouge; daughters, Kyrie Robinson, Kayla Robinson, and Carmen Robinson; 17 grandchildren, Alaina, Ava, Alaric, Adeline, Abigale, Tanner, Emma, Maggie, Sophia, Gwen, Myra, Matthew, Ella, Hayle, Serrina, Kira, Anthony, and one great-grandson, Oliver. Ann was preceded in death by her mother, Brenda Brummett; brother, Brian Brummett; father-in-law, James Robinson; mother-in-law, Bonnie Robinson; stepdaughter, Christina Woods, and her sweet African Grey, Max.

Ann's passion for helping others led to her career in the Social Services field for over 30 years, working with children with autism and adults with developmental disabilities. She was blessed to have worked at The Zeilbeck Group for the last 9 years. Ann enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going to the beach, visiting the ocean and mountains, traveling, to Mexico, music, concerts, collecting vintage items and textiles, camping, vintage camper rallies, and raising her dearly loved parrots, Max, Lucy, and Lola Grace. 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m., with Pastor Dennis Pickens, officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.

Antonette "Toni" Ruhe

Antonette "Toni" Ruhe, December 17, 1947 - August 30, 2024. 
Antonette "Toni" Ruhe, 76, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday, August 30, 2024, at 2:33 pm in Franciscan Health - Michigan City, Michigan City, Indiana.  Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am, September 6, 2024, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1506 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana with Rev. Walter Ciesla officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, and Friday from 8:30 am until 9:30 am in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana. 
She was born December 17, 1947, in La Porte, Indiana to the late Anthony and Mary A.(Moretti) Checolo. On July 20, 1968, in Michigan City, Indiana, she married Joseph "Joe" Ruhe who survives Michigan City, Indiana.  Also surviving are two sons, Michael (Jenny Kopanski) Ruhe of Michigan City, Indiana, and  Mark (Laura) Ruhe of Avon, Ohio,  five grandchildren, Nicholas Ruhe, Allison (Nate Allen) Ruhe, Micah Ruhe, Charles Ruhe, and William Ruhe;  Toni's former daughter-in-law, Heidi Ruhe of Michigan City, Indiana; She was preceded in death by her brother Thomas Checolo. 
In her beginning career, she was a licensed beautician.  Toni then worked in the accounting departments of Weil-McLain Mfg, Michigan City News-Dispatch, and retired from Trailer Transit, Inc.   She also worked for the Michigan City School System as a lunchtime volunteer at Knapp School and worked with the Charter #1 program at Pine School.  Her greatest love was donating any of her time to her grandchildren.

Dolores Kime

Dolores Kime, February 6, 1930-August 25, 2024. 

Dolores Kime, 94, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024,  peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones in the comfort of her home in La Porte, IN.  She was born February 6, 1930, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Wilbur Baity and Helen Agnes (Tracy) Baity.  Dolores moved to La Porte in 1940 from Illinois, where she became a long-time resident. Dolores graduated from La Porte High School in 1948 and became a Telephone Operator for Bell Telephone, eventually retiring from a telephone manufacturing company.  On October 12,  1957, in LaPorte, IN, she married the love of her life, Charles E.  Kime, who preceded her in death on January 6, 2015. An active member of the First Presbyterian Church in La Porte, Dolores was proud to be recognized as the oldest living member of her congregation. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her through the joys and challenges she faced. 

As a talented crafter, she enjoyed activities such as macrame, knitting, and painting and she found joy in sewing and creating beautiful dresses.  Along with crafting, Dolores had a green thumb that brought life to her garden. Dolores celebrated her children's achievements as a devoted sports mom, a supportive 4H mom, and a den mother.  Known affectionately as the “hostess with the mostess,” Dolores brought people together for countless celebrations and family gatherings, creating warm memories that will be cherished by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Susanne (Harry Meeks) Kime; son, Robert Charles (Vanessa) Kime of Indiana; three grandchildren, Eric Kime, Amanda Kime, Steven Kime; Lisa Downey, who was like a daughter and many nieces and nephews who she loved.

Along with her husband of 58 years, Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Raymond (Lela) Baity and James Baity; two sisters, JoAnn (John) Jamaradak, and Patricia (Robert) McGinnis.

A memorial service for Dolores will be held at the Presbyterian Church of La Porte, 307 Kingsbury Ave, La Porte, IN, Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Jane Daniels, officiating.
