Ruth Ellen Mauch, 72, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Northwest Health La Porte.
Ruth was born on September 17, 1952, in East Chicago, IN, to Albert "Al" and Verna (Hamnik) Dray. Surviving Ruth are her daughter, Elizabeth (Dion) Bergeron of Michigan City; 3 grandsons, Orion Frank of La Porte, Donovan Bergeron of Michigan City, and Trevor Bergeron of Indianapolis; sister, Marilynn (Charles) Wagner of Peru; 2 nieces, Wendy (Brian) Arwood of Peru and Sarah Miler of Denver, CO; 4 great-nieces, Molly, Illiana, Runa, and Mina Arwood, all of Peru; 1 great-nephew, Gideon Arwood of Peru; and beloved cat, Oscar. She was preceded in death by her parents and very special schnauzer, George.
Ruth was a 1974 Purdue University graduate, earning her bachelor's degree in English and Elementary Education. From 1980 - 2002, Ruth worked as a Law Clerk Director for several law firms in downtown Chicago. Following that, she proudly worked at Indiana State Prison as a Correctional Officer and Correctional Case Manager for 8 years. Most recently, Ruth worked as a CVS Advisor until her retirement in 2019. Ruth was involved in community theater from the 1970s to the 1990's, especially at Purdue University Northwest, Indiana University Gary, and the Lake County theater community. She had a particular fondness for the Golden Age of Cinema and Cole Porter. She loved baking and seasonal cookie walks. Ruth enjoyed karaoke, coffee, and strolling along downtown Chicago viewing the Christmas decorations.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
