Daniel C. Peterson, a resident of Frankenmuth, Michigan, passed away on March 28, 2025, at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving family at Winter Village in Frankenmuth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 1010 Moore Road, Long Beach, IN, with Rev. Keith McClellan officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation will be from 10:00 am -11:00 am, Thursday at the church. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.
Born on August 29, 1938, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to the late Arthur J. and Helen Creegan Peterson, Dan grew into a remarkable individual. On May 12, 1962, he married Joan K. Burke in Orange, California.
Dan is survived by his devoted wife, Joan; daughter Susan (Stephen) Reider; and sons Daniel and Michael (Lorene) Peterson, all residing in Frankenmuth, Michigan. He was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren: Meghan Reider, Sean Reider, Cullen Peterson, William Peterson, and Margaret Peterson. Additionally, he is survived by his brother Ed Peterson.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Helen Peterson; brother Jay Peterson; sister Ruth Protzeller; and daughter Anne Mary Peterson.
Throughout his career, Dan served as a Captain at Delta Airlines for 33 years. He also honorably served as a Naval Aviator and Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, flying F-4D aircraft. Dan was a member of the American Legion John Franklin Miller Post 37 in Michigan City, IN, the Marine Corps Heritage Institute, the Marine Corps Naval Aviation Association, and the Naval Aviation Museum.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Winter Village, including Abby, Ryan, Anne, Jordan, and Bethany. They also appreciate the care provided by the staff at Advisacare Home Care, particularly Daneesha and Linda, and many others. Special thanks are given to Amber, RN, and Stephanie, RN, with Advisacare Hospice for their compassionate support during Dan's final days. The family is also grateful to Father Pat of Blessed Trinity for his spiritual guidance and support.
