Taylor Whitehead Jr., 92, La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 2:51 p.m., in Franciscan Health, Michigan City. A private committal service will be held with Pastor Casey Pitchford officiating. Entombment will follow in Chapel of the Chimes Mausoleum at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, Indiana. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington Street, Michigan City, Indiana is handling arrangements.
He was born on March 3, 1933, in Harlan, Kentucky, to the late Taylor and Catherine (Caldwell) Whitehead, Sr. In 1954, he married Edna Mae Caldwell, who preceded him in death in 2012. He then married Cleo Brummett Evans, who preceded him in death in 2020.
Surviving are his two daughters, Bonnie (Robert) Salak of La Porte, Indiana, and Phyllis (Roger) Howard of Michigan City, Indiana; one son, Charles (Shawna) Whitehead of La Porte, Indiana; three grandchildren, Veronica (Chris) Tsitrian, Carla Glossenger, and Jason Dierdorf; six great-grandchildren, Arianna Rojas, Kayla (Casey) Pitchford, Lillian (Nathan) Combs, Jacob Tsitrian, Tony Glossenger, and Jadon Tsitrian; three great-great grandchildren, Celeste Garcia, Isaac Combs, and Selah Pitchford; two sisters, Omajean Caldwell and Mary Ann Whitehead of Kentucky; and very special nephews, John and Mike Caldwell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna Mae Whitehead; son, Roy Whitehead; second wife, Cleo Evans (Brummet) Whitehead; and six brothers, Elmer, Fred, John, Manuel, Hurley, and Reuben Whitehead; and one sister, Bonnie Lou Whitehead.
Taylor was a tool & die machinist and attended the Meer Road United Baptist Church, Michigan City, Indiana. Taylor was a great gardener, raising wonderful vegetables from his garden. He was a great handyman, who could fix anything.
