Jeremy James Phillips, 38, passed away on March 9, 2025, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Born on December 29, 1986, in Michigan City, Indiana, Jeremy lived a life filled with passion, creativity, and dedication to his craft.
Jeremy pursued his education at Indiana University in Bloomington, earning dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Theatre with a concentration in Stage Management and English Literature. His love for the arts was evident in every aspect of his life. Whether working behind the scenes in theatre or immersing himself in studying his craft, Jeremy’s brilliance and commitment shone through. His theater career allowed him to travel across the U.S. and China, where his expertise as a stage production manager was highly sought after.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Jeremy had a deep love for cooking. He found joy in crafting meals that allowed him to express his creativity. His enthusiasm for both theatre and the culinary arts reflected his boundless imagination and zest for life. He was also passionate about music, teaching himself to play the piano and keyboard. His love of music extended to production, where he explored new ways to bring sound to life.
Jeremy was deeply loved by those who knew him. A devoted son, brother, nephew, and friend, he brightened the lives of many with his kindness and authenticity. He lived unapologetically, embracing each moment with confidence and passion.
He is survived by his loving parents, Marty and Mary Anderson; his brother, Quincy Leonard; his aunts Doris Howell, Patricia (Victor) Taylor, Zina Leonard, Emma Hicks, and Marie Taylor; God-sister, Rahmatu Kassimu, special cousins Tiara (Donnie) Allison, Torez Pearson, Terrence Pearson, Diamond Howell, Angela (Craig)Toney, DeAndre Leonard, and Christopher Leonard; and special best friends Blake Fleming, Travis Schilla, Amber Poff.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willie R. Leonard Sr., Sarah Leonard, and Alma Jean Kelly, as well as his uncles Willie R. Leonard Jr. and Larry L. Leonard.
Jeremy’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His smile, witty conversations, and genuine love for family and friends will be forever missed. May his legacy of creativity and authenticity continue to inspire all who had the privilege of sharing in his journey.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 21, 2025, at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN, with Pastor Robert Fleming officiating. Burial will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Friday at the funeral chapel.
