Joan Forrester, September 9, 1946 -March 14, 2025.
Joan Forrester, 78, of Walkerton, Indiana, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025, at her son Thomas’s home, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born September 9, 1946, in Detroit Lakes, MN, the daughter of Herbert Ronning and Olga (Tolerude) Ronning.
Joan graduated from Audubon High School in Minnesota, class of 1965. Shortly after graduating, she moved to La Porte, IN. There, at Bethany Lutheran Church, on October 7, 1966, Joan married the love of her life, Thomas Forrester, Sr., who preceded her in death, on June 19, 2019. Joan was both a business owner and a homemaker. She loved gardening, carefully tending to her vegetables and her flowers. She and her family spent many hours canning the veggies, nearly 100 quarts a year. Joan loved spending quality time with her family and she looked forward to their yearly trips to Minnesota. She also gathered everyone for weekly Sunday cookouts, where she showcased her excellent cooking skills. Joan always made sure her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were well taken care of and loved with all her heart. She left an indelible mark on everyone she knew and will be missed by them all.
She is survived by her 3 sons, Jeff (Paula) Forrester of New Carlisle, IN, Michael (Stacey) Forrester of Walkerton, IN, Thomas Forrester Jr. of Walkerton, IN; brother, Duane (Jennifer)Ronning of Hawley, MN; grandchildren, Holly (Jon) Dudley, Brooke (Sarah) Kush, Jeremy Forrester, Michael Forrester, Logan Forrester; great-grandchildren, Weston and Remi Dudley, Kolston Kush and numerous beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband of 53 years, Joan was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Carol Impola; and brother, Doug Ronning. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. There will be a graveside funeral service on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. central time at Kingsbury Cemetery prior to the burial of both Joan and Thomas' cremated remains. Pastor Dennis Meyer will officiate. Military honors will be rendered for Thomas by American Legion Hamon Gray Post 83, La Porte. Immediately following the service, a celebration of life will be held at The American Legion Post 189, 302 Legion Dr., Walkerton, Indiana 46574.
