Richard Ernie Walker, 76, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Northwest Health La Porte, surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 1, 1948, in Michigan City, IN.  Richard was the son of William Foster and Nina E. (Wines) Walker.

Richard married Teresa Smith, the love of his life, who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Peggy (Matt) Walker of La Porte, David (Cindy) Walker of La Porte, and Tracy (Brian) Palen of La Porte; grandchildren, Tiffany (Zack) Ford, Shannon Steel, David Walker II, William (Stephanie) Walker, Sheena (Richard) Shock, Dylan Walker, and Randall (Kayla) Kabowski; many great-grandchildren; great, great-granddaughter, Laney; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Michael Miller; sisters, Patricia Peters, Shirley Johnson, and Charlotte Ackerman; and brothers Roger, Jim, Ron, Steve, and Gene Walker.

Richard was employed in the maintenance dept. at the La Porte Co. Parks Dept. for many years.  He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and watching movies.  Richard had a wonderful sense of humor and the ability to put a smile on almost everyone's face. Most importantly, he will be remembered for how he loved spending time with family and friends. He will be dearly missed and deeply loved by his immediate and extended family.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. Inurnment at Door Village Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Richard's family will be hosting a Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering at Creek Ridge County Park, 7943 W. 400 N., Michigan City, on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 2 p.m.
