Tonja Maria Roman

Tonja Maria Roman, 63, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Saturday, May 18th, 2024, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, with her mother at her side.

 

She was born May 4th, 1961, in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Pedro Jose Roman and Patricia (Sheetz) Roman.

 

Tonja grew up in La Porte and graduated from La Porte High School before attending Purdue NW for 3 years. She began a career with FedEx spanning 30+ years, moving to South Bend from La Porte. Growing up, Tonja played softball, set many batting records, and enjoyed gardening.  She lived a fulfilling life led by the Lord, attending both the Bethlehem Baptist Church in South Bend, where she did the weekly cleaning, and the Tracy Church in Hamlet, where she used her creative talents to decorate for their Mother's Day Tea. Tonja was an artist who loved crafting and she showcased her designs at Elephant's Breath Antiques in Niles, MI.  She was an enthusiastic cook, a mom to 3 cats, and a wonderful daughter and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

 

Tonja is survived by her mother, Patricia Roman of Kingsford Heights, and her brother, Ricardo Roman.

 

Tonja was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lorena and Brownie Sheetz and Uncle James Sheetz.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN.  A viewing will be held on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at Tracy Church, 1702 US 35, Hamlet, IN 46532. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Tony Ferreira, officiating. Cremation will take place. A luncheon will be hosted at the American Legion in Kingsford Heights at noon. If anyone has pictures of Tonja that they could share with her mother, please post them on the Haverstock website or bring a copy to the services.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in Tonja's honor to Tracy Church, Hamlet, Bethlehem Baptist in South Bend, or The American Heart Association.
