Rebecca J. Read, 89, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Saturday, May 18th, 2024. She was born on July 8th, 1934, in Rushville, Indiana.

 

Rebecca was a Medical Transcriber with the La Porte Hospital for 15 years and a receptionist at the First United Methodist Church in La Porte for 8 years. She graduated in 1943 from Lew Wallace High School in Gary, Indiana.

 

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of La Porte, a former member of the Martha Circle, PTA, the Camping Club, and a Boy Scout Leader. She enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, crocheting, and knitting.

 

On February 14th, 1954, in Gary, Indiana Rebecca married Donald L. Read who preceded her in death on September 7th, 2005.

 

Surviving is a daughter, Deborah Konoka of North Aurora, Illinois; a son, Leonard (JoEllen) Read of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Adam (Christine) Konopka, Kelsey (Jose) Lopez, Morgan Read; great-grandchildren, Hailey and Oliver Konopka, Kamila and Josiela Lopez.

 

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, May 28th, 2024, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana. Pastor Tim Ahlemeyer will officiate. Family and friends may visit from 10 AM to 11 AM in the funeral home prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Patton Cemetery.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the New Day Foundation.
