Marvin White

Marvin White, 91, of Walkerton (Fish Lake), passed away peacefully at 6:38 p.m., Saturday, June 4, 2022 in his home.

 

He was born May 19, 1931, in Duco, Kentucky, to Riley and Flora (Collins) White.

 

In his earlier years, Marv was part of a band of six-members called, The Half Mountain Hot Shots, where they showcased their country and blue grass music on a radio show WSIP out of Paintsville, Kentucky. He and his wife, Olean,  recorded a gospel album in 1969 in Lima, Ohio.

 

Marv retired as Plant Superintendent from Independent Steel and Casting on January 3, 1986. He was past member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was the song leader and guitar player. Marv also played guitar for First Baptist Church, Walkerton, for 35 years. He was a current member of Friendship Baptist Church.

 

Marv did not play golf until the age of 60 years old. He managed to make six holes in one since his start of playing golf, winning himself many trophies. Marv enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and was known for his vegetable gardening. He loved his family deeply and will be dearly missed by all.

 

On April 28, 1951, in Winamac, Indiana, he married Olean (Parks) White, who preceded him in death March 26, 2017.

 

Also preceding in death were his parents; one daughter, Carmalee Tanksley; one brother and his wife, William Jay and Marylee White; two brothers, James White and Dennis Collins; one sister, Christine Vanloon; one brother-in-law, Robert Smith; and one daughter-in-law, Antoinette “Sis” Mullins.

 

Surviving are his three sons, Clarence (Jo Hein) Mullins of Mishawaka, Jerry Lynn (Edith) White of Obbach, Germany, and Russell Jay (Cindy) White of Summerfield, FL; three brothers, Burl C. (Faye) White of Kingsbury, Vongray (Sharen) Collins and Paul Edward Collins both of Salyersville, Kentucky; five sisters, Imojean Smith of Walkerton, Cleo Collins of Rensselaer, and Wilma Risner, Wanda Sue (Jack) Jordan, and Martha Perkins all of Salyersville, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.

 

A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 10, 2022 at Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, (219) 362-3100 with Pastor Jason Burrick officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 9, 2022 and from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday, June 10, 2022 at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Salem Cemetery, La Porte.
