2026 midterm elections: Democrats projected to win enough seats to gain control of the House

ABC News

ABC News projects that the Democrats will win enough seats to gain control of the House. Included in the calculation are several seats in later poll closing times that ABC News analysts believe will not affect the outcome.

Heading into Election Day, the Senate consisted of 53 Republicans, 45 Democrats and two independents. In the House of Representatives, there are 218 Republicans and 214 Democrats, in addition to one independent and two vacancies.
