(La Porte County, IN) - A driver who crashed his sports car allegedly fled on foot but was soon captured while impaired.
That’s according to La Porte County Police, who arrested Durand Willis, 34, for operating while intoxicated.
Police about 7 a.m. on Saturday were called to the 3700 block of E. Indiana 4 and found a 2014 Dodge Charger owned by Willis abandoned at the crash site. Willis, who lives in the area, was spotted walking through a bean field before located by an officer walking along the two lane highway.
According to police, the man, whose shoes appeared wet, told the officer he was “out for a jog.”
He was offered a breathalyzer test due to an odor of alcohol on his breath but he refused to take it, which led to his automatic OWI arrest, police said.
The charge was upgraded to a Level 6 felony due to him having a prior OWI conviction from May of this year. He was also charged with driving on a suspended license.
Further details about the crash were not revealed.
