(La Porte, IN) - A man is accused of stealing an old guitar worth thousands of dollars from a home in La Porte.

William J. Daley of Hudson Lake is charged in La Porte Circuit Court with Level 6 felony theft.

According to La Porte Police, the investigation revealed Daley on September 25 went to the home of a man to make some repairs to his enclosed porch.

Surveillance camera footage shows Daley making his way to the basement without permission and walking out of the residence with a carrying case containing the guitar, police said.

The owner told investigators he purchased the guitar brand new in 1972 and still has the original paperwork.  He estimated the value of the guitar at $8,000.

Daley could face anywhere from a six month to 30 month sentence.

He bailed out of the La Porte County Jail on Wednesday, which was four days after his arrest, according to court records.
