(Michigan City, IN) - Michigan City is going to start issuing medals again to veterans.
Patriot medals started being issued to veterans serving after the terrorist attacks from 25 years ago under a program that began when Chuck Oberlie was mayor.
However, the program has been dormant for over a decade.
Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch told the city council this week the Patriot medals program is in the process of coming back.
“There’s like 80 people who have received this award but it hasn’t been awarded since 2014, so, that will be reestablished,” she said.
She also said new medals under the same design will be made to issue to veterans, who will chosen by the mayor’s Veterans Committee.
