(Indianapolis, IN) - Indiana will continue to have some of the cheapest gas prices in the nation.

 

That’s because the governor announced today the state has extended its gas tax suspension for another month.  The gas tax used for maintaining roads has not been collected since April.

 

The cost to state government, so far, is approaching $1 billion.

 

State Senator Mike Bohacek of Michiana Shores said the price break is good for consumers, who should know the lost revenue will have to made up either through existing funds elsewhere in the budget to preserve road projects or cutting road projects.

 

“If this continues, we’re going to be down over a billion dollars in road funding,” he said.

 

Consumers here are paying about 60 cents less per gallon because of the gas tax suspension, which now runs until early November.  The gas tax suspension is an effort to keep down rising fuel prices nationwide resulting from things like the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran.
