(La Porte, IN) - The annual Sunflower Fair in La Porte on Saturday has been cancelled due to a very good chance of rain and thunderstorms.
Jessica Spoljaric, a spokesperson for the mayor’s office, said a major concern behind the decision was gusty winds thunderstorms can bring that could topple the many pop-up tents vendors and others involved in the festival planned to set up.
The weather forecast also includes the potential for flooding.
“We have to keep the safety of our attendees, our vendors, our volunteers, that all has to be at the forefront,” she said.
Spoljaric said the Sunflower Fair will not be rescheduled but some other event to replace it in the coming weeks is under consideration.
Thousands of people have attended the Sunflower Fair, which also includes a car show, for over 20-years.
