(La Porte County, IN) - A man is accused of leading La Porte County Police on a motor vehicle chase last night.
Mark Ericson, 55, was arrested for resisting law enforcement and operating while intoxicated.
Police said an officer tried stopping Ericson for driving recklessly with the trunk open on his sport utility vehicle based on a complaint from another motorist.
According to police, Ericson when located by the officer threw an open can of beer out the driver’s side window and fled on U.S. 20 from Rolling Prairie to near Michigan City where an officer using stop sticks flattened one of the tires on the vehicle, which soon pulled over.
Police said the Michigan City man, who had reached speeds of 90 miles per hour, veered over the center line multiple times during the chase and struck two road construction barrels.
He allegedly refused to take a certified blood alcohol test.
