NIPSCO isn’t doing very well when it comes to the number of power outages and how long it takes to restore power.

According to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, the utility had some of the most frequent and longest power outages last year, when it had to respond to more major events than Indiana's other investor-owned utilities, according to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

 

The Merrillville-based utility ranked near the bottom among investor-owned utilities in the state based on the average number of interruptions per customer, the length of time to restore power per customer and the average duration of interruptions, according to the 2025 Indiana Utility Regulatory Reliability Report.

 

According to the IURC, NIPSCO had to restore power after eight major storm events, more than any other utility in Indiana last year.

 

In response, NIPSCO said the frequency of outages remained stable despite an increase in weather challenges in 2025 and the utility continues to make significant investments in the reliability of its electrical system.
