A teenager is accused of being drunk when he struck a few mailboxes and some landscaping outside La Porte.
Malachi Smith, 18, fled despite missing a front tire on his vehicle, according to La Porte County Police.
The collisions happened after 2:30 a.m. Friday outside a home on W. Severs Road. A few minutes later, police said a patrol officer on Boyd Boulevard heard a loud scraping noise and saw sparks coming from a car’s rim making contact with the pavement.
There were also leaves and shrubbery stuck in the front grill of the vehicle.
During a traffic stop, police said Smith had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and showed obvious signs of impairment. Smith was arrested after allegedly refusing to take a breathalyzer test.
