(La Porte County, IN) - A couple of La Porte County communities had some water problems over the weekend.
Late Friday night a lift station went down affecting residents in the area of Karwick Road and U.S. 12 near Long Beach.
The Michigan City Sanitary District determined a blown NIPSCO transformer to be the cause of the failure. Residents were urged to limit water use to essential needs only. Power and normal water functions were restored mid-afternoon Saturday. No basement backups or sewer overflows have been reported.
Down in LaCrosse, the town’s water tower sprung a leak. Fortunately, water continued to pump into the tower faster than it was leaking out. Water was not turned off, and there was no need for a boil order.
A specialized contractor was quickly brought to the site, who worked overnight Saturday to patch the hole without having to drain the tower.
