(Berrien County, MI) - A police officer shot a man, who was armed during a standoff outside a Home Depot near Benton Harbor, Michigan.

 

According to Berrien County Police, officers were called about 8:30 a.m. about a man firing a gun at a female.  Upon arrival, the suspect was inside a van near the entrance to the store parking lot.

 

Despite the efforts of negotiators, police said the man would not come out and pointed a gun at officers.  He later fled on foot into a wooded area where he was shot by a member of the department’s Tactical Response Unit, police said.

 

The gunman was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.  No light was shed on the suspect’s condition.

 

The shooting is being investigated by Michigan State Police.

 

The names of the man and officer are not being released at this time.  No further information was provided.
