(La Porte, IN) - Authorities are looking into the cause of a fire at a La Porte manufacturing company.

 

A machine somehow caught fire late Tuesday night at Howmet.  The building where the machine caught fire was evacuated due to heavy smoke inside.

 

Fire Chief Andy Snyder said firefighters using night vision equipment to see through the heavy smoke managed to cut power to the machine and ventilate the structure.

 

“Our crews were on the scene for two to three hours,” he said.

 

Snyder said investigators are trying to determine what caused the machine to catch fire.  Howmet was working to get the building where the fire occurred fully operational again.

 

There were no injuries reported.
