(Michigan City, IN) - An event raising awareness for drug abuse will be held Sunday in Michigan City. The city’s second annual Overdose Awareness Day will take place at the H.O.P.E Community Center at 222 McClelland Avenue.

 

A community walk to and from Pullman Park will begin at 3 pm. Activities to follow will include CPR and Narcan training. Participants can take home two doses of Narcan for emergency intervention.

 

A new feature this year will be a mobile memorial fence from Remembering Alan, Inc. People can attach a customized padlock in memory of a loved one lost to overdose. You are welcome to bring your own lock, or locks and on-site engraving will be available thanks to Amber’s House.

 

Other community organizations such as the Salvation Army, Swanson Center, Nest Community Shelter, and many other drug recovery groups will be set up, as well.

 

Whether you have lost a loved one to drug abuse, are in recovery yourself, love someone who is, want to learn how to save a life, or simply want to stand with your community, you are welcome to attend.
