(La Porte County, IN) - A man already facing charges of auto theft was arrested last night outside Michigan City on allegations of stealing a motor vehicle.

 

Colin Caird, 42, was booked into the La Porte County Jail on Level 6 felony auto theft.

 

According to La Porte County Police, an officer after 11 p.m. spotted a vehicle reported stolen the previous weekend in Michigan City at a Marathon gas station on U.S. 20 near the Porter County line.  The 2018 Volkswagen was beside the pumps while Caird was putting fuel into the vehicle, police said.

 

Police said Caird when approached by the officer replied he was given the vehicle but later admitted he knew the vehicle had been stolen from a residence on Franklin St.

 

At the time, Caird was out on bond on previously filed charges of auto theft in La Porte and Porter counties, according to authorities.  His current address at the jail is listed as Goshen.
