Extra Benefits at this Weekend's Farmers Markets

(La Porte County, IN) - More financial aid is now available for some shoppers at local farmers markets. Farmed & Forged is expanding its SNAP benefits matching program this weekend.

Through a storm response grant provided by Health Foundation of La Porte, SNAP shoppers in both Michigan City and La Porte will receive an additional $20 match on top of the markets’ existing Triple SNAP Match program. That means $20 in SNAP benefits can provide up to $80 in total purchasing power for SNAP-eligible food items.

Another program, called Market Mamas, will also be available at both La Porte County markets this weekend, providing an additional $20 in food purchasing support for WIC-eligible moms. That funding will be available for up to 25 participants at each market.

Farmed & Forged in Michigan City is open Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon and in La Porte Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
