Teenager Burned in House Fire

(Michigan City, IN) - A teenager was taken to a hospital with burns from a house fire in Michigan City.

Firefighters about 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday responded to the 900 block of W. 4th St.

A medical helicopter was called for a 16-year old boy who had what was described as “pretty severe burns” to his chest, arms and face.  An ambulance was called for a man at the home reported to be in his 30’s with less serious burns.

Michigan City Fire Department spokesperson Tia Eckwood said the fire began in a bedroom and was nearly out when firefighters arrived.   She said the fire was contained to the middle of the bedroom with just minimal damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, she said.

The names of the injured people were not available.
