More Lane Configurations for I-94

Overnight lane closures will start this week on a stretch of Interstate 94 that includes La Porte County.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the lane closures will occur between Indiana 49 and the U.S. 20/35 exit.

Alternating lane closures will happen between Indiana 49 and U.S. 421 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting on or after Tuesday to set up a new traffic configuration.

In the new traffic configuration, INDOT said eastbound traffic will return to the eastbound side of I-94 with two lanes shifted to the right starting on or after Wednesday.

Starting on or after the evening of July 25, westbound traffic will be shifted to utilize counterflow lanes on the eastbound side of I-94 starting near U.S. 421.

Westbound traffic will then switch back over to the westbound side around mile marker 29. This configuration will be in place through late August for resurfacing operations.

Alternating lane closures on I-94 are also planned between U.S. 421 and U.S. 20/35 during the overnight hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.   Overnight work will start on or after Wednesday through Saturday morning and then resume the following week, according to INDOT.

This work is in relation to the full bridge deck replacement on Bleck Rd over I-94, which includes restrictions on I-94.

Motorists should be prepared for changing traffic layouts over the course of the next two weeks, especially during overnight hours. INDOT encourages drivers to consider safety for all by slowing down, using extra caution and driving distraction-free when travelling in and around all work zones.
