Even Hotter at Fair for Cooks

(La Porte County, IN) - One man doesn’t seem to mind the 90 degree temperatures, so much, despite manning a barbecue grill during this week’s La Porte County Fair.

The 600 degree heat from the grill has raised the outdoor temperature to as much as 119 degrees where Mark Baker stands to cook ribeye steak sandwiches, hamburgers and all-beef hot dogs as a vendor at the fair.

“There is no staying cool.  We do it because we love it,” he said.

Baker said the tubs of cool water along with fans at his food stand help but he steps away at times for another cook to take over so he can find some shade or an air conditioner before resuming his duties.

“Everybody needs to hydrate and be safe out here.  They really do,” he said.
