(La Porte County, IN) - A Rolling Prairie area boy has a calf positioned to do well in the judging at next year’s La Porte County Fair.

 

Reed Howard’s Black Angus Holstein heifer, “Raven,” won first place in the prospects show for young cows in her category.

 

“Pretty good,” is how the New Prairie Middle School student responded when asked how the top billing performance in the show ring felt.

 

The 170 pound cow born in December of 2024 will move up to the adult category during the showing in next year’s fair when she is expected to start giving milk.

 

Howard, who soon turns 12, said he helps take care of his family’s 20 or so other cows at home by doing things like feeding them a mixture of hay and grain that includes corn.  He also washes the animals.
