(La Porte County, IN) - A Chicago area man was allegedly impaired while leading police on a high-speed chase that ended with his arrest in Michigan City.
Jakobi Kinsey, 27, is charged with operating while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement.
According to La Porte County Police, a four vehicle crash with a serious injury happened about 4:30 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 94.
Police said the entire interstate at the 33 mile marker was closed but Kinsey drove around all of the police vehicles with their flashing lights activated at the scene of the crash. A sheriff’s deputy pursued the vehicle at more than 100 miles per hour.
Police said Kinsey veered northbound on U.S. 421 and soon turned into the parking lot of McDonalds where he began walking away from the vehicle when he complied with commands to lay down on the ground.
An odor of alcohol was detected on his breath. Kinsey was arrested when he refused to submit to a certified blood alcohol test, police said.
