Case of Teen Accused of Stabbing Deaths Headed to Adult Court

(Michigan City, IN) - A teenager accused of double homicide in Michigan City will be tried in adult court.

15-year-old Mason Schoen was 14 last October when he allegedly stabbed to death 67-year-old Eddie Nixon, Junior and 66-year-old Sylvia White at their home in the 100 block of Schofield Court. The juvenile was found after he later crashed a car on Johnson Rd.

According to La Porte County Prosecutor Sean Fagan, a 16-18-year-old who commits a serious felony can be “direct filed” to adult court, but a suspect younger than that requires a waiver. Fagan confirmed that the Juvenile Court has waived jurisdiction, after hearing evidence from numerous witnesses. There will be a hearing relatively soon in Superior Court 1 before Judge Jaime Oss, Fagan said.
