Erratic Driving Leads to Heroin Bust

(Michigan City, IN) - A man driving erratically in Michigan City last night is accused of having heroin on his possession.

Benjamin Young, 45, of Michigan City was booked into the La Porte County Jail for allegedly having a small amount of suspected heroin inside his wallet along with two unopened hypodermic needles.

According to police, Young was spotted traveling 15 miles per hour below the  posted 30 mph speed limit in the area of Franklin St. and Homer streets.  The vehicle also crossed the center line before stopping into a parking lot.

During a traffic stop, police said a computer check revealed he had a suspended driver’s license.  A search of the vehicle was conducted after a hypodermic needle was found in plain view on the front passenger seat.

A short time later, police said a small plastic zip lock baggie containing suspected heroin was found in Young’s wallet.  Another hypodermic was allegedly found in one of his pockets.

Young was being held on $1,000 cash bond.
