(La Porte County, IN) - A decision has been made in response to drivers making it dangerous for crews to resurface Johnson Road.
Currently, flagmen temporarily stop vehicles to allow oncoming traffic to come through and switch to allow traffic heading in the opposite direction to pass through.
La Porte County Commissioner Steve Holifield said there will be rolling road closures, instead, beginning on Monday. He issued a warning Thursday morning that this would happen if drivers did not stop driving around flagmen and doing other hazardous things like speeding in the construction area.
Holifield said the change was made several hours later after drivers continued to make work crews feel unsafe.
“This is being done to protect our county workers and keep them safe,” he said.
Holfield said the resurfacing from U.S. 35 in La Porte to 400 North in Coolspring Township will be finished before the end of next month.
