(Michigan City, IN) - The Salvation Army is getting ready for its 11th annual donut eating contest.
Ben Bachmann, the athletic director at Michigan City High School, has won the contest the last two years. Last year, he ate 20 donuts in 10 minutes, which was the most ever for the contest.
This year’s contest is scheduled June 5 at 10 a.m. at Blue Chip Casino.
There will be 17 contestants including community members and police officers.
Proceeds from the contest benefit vital Salvation Army services in La Porte County, including the food pantry, diaper bank and free summer camp for local children.
“Year after year, we see incredible enthusiasm from both contestants and spectators, all in support of programs that serve our neighbors in need,” said Major Dale Simmons, who leads The Salvation Army in La Porte County alongside his wife, Major Becky Simmons.
