(La Porte, IN) - The La Porte Police Department has a new second in command.

 

Chae Uhlemann has been promoted from chief of detectives to assistant police chief. He replaces Jim Ferguson, who stepped down from that position but remains on the department at the rank of captain.

 

Chief Matt Drangmeister said he believes Uhlemann, an 18-year member of the force, is a great fit for the position because of his experience and leadership skills.

 

"During that time, he’s earned the respect of both his fellow officers and the community through his leadership, work ethic, and commitment to service,” he said.

 

Ferguson was named assistant police chief in March of last year when Drangmeister took over as chief.
