Press Box Approved for Sports Complex

(Michigan City, IN) - A press box has been approved for a sports complex planned at Michigan City High School.

The press box will be over four feet higher than what the current zoning allows. However, the city’s Board of Zoning Appeals Tuesday granted a variance for the press box to exceed the maximum allowable height.

The board heard from Jeanette Mulleen, who’s the project manager with Fanning Howey, an Indianapolis-based architectural and engineering firm.

“It does provide unobstructed view from the coaches, from broadcasters, from any journalists down to the field,” she said.

Plans for the sports complex include new playing fields for soccer and track along with tennis courts at some point.  Some of the groundwork to prepare the site for construction is now occurring.
