(La Porte, IN) - A La Porte grade school has a new principal.

 

Kristen Smith has been chosen to become principal at Hailmann Elementary School. Smith comes here from Edgewood Elementary School in Michigan City where she’s been the principal.

 

La Porte Schools Superintendent Dr. Sandra Wood told the school board this week Smith will replace Zack Huber, who’s being promoted to another role within the administration…

 

“She brings a strong background in instructional leadership, student achievement and school improvement,” she said.

 

Smith, who attended Hailmann Elementary as a child, also addressed the board.

 

“As someone who calls La Porte home, I’m truly honored and excited to join the district and become part of the community that means so much to me both personally and professionally,” she said.

 

Huber has been principal at Hailmann since 2021.  He’s also a former Slicer.
