(La Porte, IN) - A major storm water drainage project in La Porte will begin soon.
The La Porte Redevelopment Commission on Wednesday approved an over $5 million contract for the Boyd Boulevard storm water improvement project.
Director of Planning, Craig Phillips, said the work will begin once a few clerical related things involving paperwork are completed.
“The intention is for the project to likely get started as early as next week with the initial stages of the project. As soon as that paperwork is done, I can give the notice to proceed and green light to our team that’s involved in this project,” he said.
Officials said the storm water/sewer separation project is aimed at improving drainage even north of Lincolnway in neighborhoods prone to flooding during major rain events over the years.
More drainage capacity also opens up potential for existing industries in that area to expand their operations.
