(La Porte County, IN) - A man was arrested at a heavily attended school event in La Porte County for allegedly carrying a handgun on his hip.
Joshua O’Dor, 41, was booked into the La Porte County Jail on Level 6 felony possession of a firearm on school property. The Kingsford Heights man was later released after posting bond.
According to La Porte County Police, the arrest happened Saturday night at South Central High School during its “Prom Grand March” event. An estimated 1,000 people were in attendance when the parent of a student complained about a man openly carrying a gun.
A detective with the sheriff’s office at the event quickly located O'Dor and safely removed his .40 caliber Glock firearm. La Porte County Police Capt. Derek Allen gave thanks to the parents making the complaint.
“This is a shining example of see something, say something. We appreciate this type of vigilance to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone attending the event,” he said.
