(La Porte County, IN) - A man is accused of causing a serious injury motor vehicle crash last year while impaired in La Porte County.
Shallun Culp, Jr., 21, of Michigan City is charged in La Porte Circuit Court with Level 4 felony operating while intoxicated causing catastrophic injury; criminal recklessness and driving with a suspended license, both Level 5 felonies.
La Porte County Police said Culp on October 16 was passing in a no-passing zone on U.S. 421 just a few miles south of Michigan City when he crashed head on into a mini-van. The most seriously hurt was an eight year old boy whose injuries were described by authorities as catastrophic.
Culp was arrested two days ago following a several month long investigation. He could face anywhere from a two to 12 year sentence on the most serious count and one to six years on each of the two remaining counts.
