(La Porte County, IN) - La Porte County Police say a man was caught drinking and driving again after his car caught fire last night.

 

 

 

42 year old Joseph Scott of Michigan City pulled over on U.S. 20 near Interstate 94 before a state police trooper stopped and extinguished the flames.  Police said Scott told investigators he recently worked on several components of his 2001 Buick LeSabre but he wasn’t sure what caused the fire.

 

Scott had an alleged blood alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit.

 

Police said the charge was upgraded to a Level 5 felony because he was convicted 20 years ago of killing someone while driving impaired in Lake County.  He could face anywhere from a one to six year sentence on the latest charge.
