Federal Charges Against Former Housing Official

(South Bend, IN) - A former Michigan City Housing Authority official is facing federal charges in connection with an alleged bribery scheme.

 

Rodney McCormick is charged in U.S. District Court in South Bend with three counts stemming from a grand jury indictment.  According to court documents, McCormick in 2023 accepted two payments totaling $13,000 in exchange for awarding bids to certain contractors for renovating housing units in the jurisdiction of the housing authority.

 

At the time, McCormick was chairman of the Michigan City Housing Authority Board of Commissioners.  In 2018, a then 51 year old McCormick was arrested for alleged threats made to Michigan City Mayor Ron Meer.  The case was dismissed about a year later after no probable cause was found.
