Drug Dealer Behind Bars Again

(La Porte, IN) - A convicted drug dealer from La Porte County could go back to prison on allegations he sold narcotics again.

Sherman Arnett, 39, of Michigan City is charged in La Porte Circuit Court with Level 3 felony dealing in methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Arnett in early January sold 2.3 grams of methamphetamine at Country Acres Apartments in La Porte.  Police said Arnett carried out the exchange next to the vehicle the buyer drove to that location.

According to prosecutors, the charge was upgraded to a higher felony because the sale occurred near children stepping off a school bus and within 250 feet from Allesee Park.  Another factor in upgrading the charge was Arnett having a prior conviction for dealing in methamphetamine from 2018.

He served an over four year sentence split between prison and community corrections, according to court records.
