(La Porte, IN) - A man from another country has been sentenced in La Porte but he's not at risk of serving any of that time as long as he doesn’t come back to the U.S.

 

 

Stefan Rankovich was given a one year jail sentence on charges of intimidation and pointing a firearm in connection with a pellet gun he held during a road rage incident with another driver.

 

After his arrest about 18 months ago, authorities said information developed that he was not a U.S. citizen and was later deported.  Rankovich later pleaded guilty and appeared for sentencing in La Porte Circuit Court on video from his home country.

 

He was advised by the judge he would need to serve his time should he ever return to the U.S.

 

La Porte County Prosecutor Sean Fagan credited deputy prosecutor Autumn Ferch for achieving what he called a “just result.”
