(South Bend, IN) - A Michigan City man has been sentenced to time in federal prison for a firearm offense.

According to court documents, 29-year-old Dontia Grant was pulled over for speeding in Michigan City. He reportedly fled from police both in his vehicle and on foot. Once apprehended, Grant was found to be in possession of a loaded pistol with a 20-round extended magazine.

This became a federal matter since he was a prior felon. Grant had other convictions for the illegal transfer of a firearm and resisting arrest.

For the recent gun charge, Grant received a five-and-a-half-year prison sentence.
