(La Porte County, IN) - A La Porte man was killed in a single vehicle crash this morning.  The victim has been identified as 50 year old Jose Jenkins.

According to La Porte County Police, Jenkins about 4 a.m. was driving a 2006 Hummer southbound on U.S. 35 when he veered off the right side of the roadway north of Stonehedge Way.  The vehicle traveled along a grass-covered shoulder area then made contact with a gravel surface before going airborne and coming to rest, police said.

Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene.  Police said an adult female passenger and three juvenile passengers were all transported from the scene for treatment.  Their conditions were not disclosed.  U.S. 35 was closed for several hours between Johnson Road and U.S. 20.  Police did not comment on whether alcohol or drugs may have been involved in the crash.
